Benice, don't think your supposed to move the basket with baby in it for that reason.

Kay, glad I'm not the only lazy one that couldn't be bothered with bottles at night. I think it is best just to go with the flow and do what works best, just let the midwives say what they need to then do your own thing!!

Lozza, I think my midwife mentioned it in passing about that sort of time, maybe next appointment but I had her last time so she didn't bother too much to be honest!!

Just on the breast feeding I was complety annoyed at the Midwife in the hosptial she just kind of said lets try feeding him now and moved the baby and pratically took my boob out and put it in his mouth....

I was quite happy the baby started feeding but it was just the way she did it :|

    d.

This made me laugh, they don't beat around the bush do they! With DS1 I had a very matron like midwife come over, squeezed some colostrum out of my boob and then stuck DS on. I wouldn't mind I had been feeding him with no problems anyway. I think it might have been cause I told her my boob was getting sore.

With mine I have always put them straight into a cot at night and had a Moses basket downstairs for daytime sleeps. I found it helped to treat daytime/nighttime sleeps differently so that baby learned night time was 'proper sleep time'. Both mine have slept through from around 7 weeks but I may have just been lucky. This one had better follow suit or I'll never manage, I'm no good without my sleep!

Any opinions on crib vs moses baskets? I was going to go for a crib as hopefully it will last DS longer but not sure.

I've got a wicker basket.. they are bigger and last longer than a moses basket.. plus having toddler if they lay on it the sides don't collapse and the baby doesn't get squashed!

Are you still holding in there PP? Not gone for an early eviction yet?!

I've got DD2's birthday on Friday, DS2 goes away on Saturday for a week and my mothers 60th on Sunday.. so this was part of our arrangement .. and I need to pack for the 3 girls 4 days away 31st-3rd on Monday.. so we are looking at any time after next Tuesday.. we have discussed it :p
my brother bought me a moses basket as he and SIL found it very useful. you can keep baby with you wherever you go in the house. I think you have to be careful carrying bubba in basket by straps in case the straps snap especially on the stairs.

You are not meant to carry the baby about IN the basket at all.. not so much the straps but the base can split.

My dil dropped the baby out of the basket and he rolled the entire way down the stairs when he was just a couple of months old. He was 2 months prem so was about newborn size.. he was fine just had a bump on his head but is a good reason to NOT carry the basket with the baby in. Nothing split or snapped he literally rolled out as she turned to go down the stairs with him.

Know the feeling PP, had a lot of stuff on with it being DDs last year at primary and sorting out for secondary so anytime after wednesday at three o clock is good for me!! Am completely expecting to go overdue anyway.

Amus, you were lucky to have them sleeping through then or I was just extremely unlucky, so so jealous! DD was 8 months, DS has only just started at 17 months and due to start all over again any day now. I must be mad, I miss sleep, ha ha!! :-(

Olivia has been in the moses basket every night we've been home but I think it'll be a couple of weeks tops and she'll be too big for it, so we're going to start putting it into the cot next week to get her used to the bigger environment. We were given it though luckily and only used pillowcases as a sheet so it's not cost us anything (except the damage to the wall from the flipping hood cover coming off and the screw catching the paint )

I think the maj of babies don't sleep through for ages...not that I can talk as since I started bottle feeding at night he basicly slept through (or from like 11pm till 6 or something) from about 8 weeks I belive and that gradually got longer to like 11pm to 10am... (He went to bed at same time as us ..bad habit but it worked for us I guess)

In end I decided he needed a 'real bedtime' so now he sleeps from 7pm...to 7am :'( miss my lyin's ... lol

My baby has always LOVED sleep though, and I know I am of the very few lucky ones not many parents can say they got to sleep in till 10am with a pratically newborn...hehe

Gonna have a terror next time arent I? :D

DD slept through her first night in hospital and first night at home. I didn't!! :rotfl:

She's a real night owl, always has been. That's fine by us. Since she started playgroups she's slept from about 8:30pm till 8:30am. But for the first 2 years I had to wake her up to take her to classes at 10:30am!!! People have always been jealous of her sleeping, but it's only because we've done what works for us. If she went to bed at 7pm it would have been a fight, plus DH wouldn't have seen her at all. Going at 10/11pm worked for us in lots of ways and she's adjusted naturally due to going to playgroup 3 mornings a week.

Not long till induction day girlzmum!! Its come round really quickly, how excited are your girls? I had that when I went out shopping with DH the other day, I was so ready to have a major hissy fit, he decided it was time to go home! Ha ha!!

4 more days to go!!! We've arranged for girls to go to MIL the night before as I have to be in hospital for 8am. They're both very excited, youngest keeps talking to him and telling him she can't wait to see him, I told her that he'll be here this time next week and I'm not entirely sure she believes me! I've got the moses basket out and set up in the living room, eldest is currently reaching in and stroking it saying how cute it is.

My sister is home for a quick visit this weekend so we popped up to mums to see her - she'll be home in 6 weeks for the christening so it was our last time together when we're both pregnant.

We were in the car earlier and there was this strange wet stuff that appeared to be falling from the sky, I know I should know what it is but I just can't remember!!!! :rotfl: Never thought I'd be happy to see a bit of rain (lasted a whole 3 minutes and was very light but as long as it reduces the heat)

Me to benicetomyself! It's still warm here but nowhere near as hot as it has been all week.

Any opinions on crib vs moses baskets? I was going to go for a crib as hopefully it will last DS longer but not sure.

My little one is 4 weeks tomorrow and around the 10lb mark and I reckon I have another 2 months with her in the moses basket (as her weight gain is slowing down a bit) then it will be straight into the cot. We have bought a pillow (http://www.clevamama.com/index.php/products/bedtime/clevafoam-baby-pillow) to stop her getting a flat head and she loves it so I am hoping that this will make the transition easier into her cot as she will have something familiar with her.

But my moses basket was only £16 (grabbit thread a while back!) and compared to a crib....it was an absolute bargain and worth every penny! (although I have bought a better mattress for it). The hood on the moses basket also makes it good to have her in front of the TV with us at night - and with it up, she can't see it.

I am going to get a travel cot also for the kitchen and to act as a play pen later on.

    This makes me very :(.

The number of women who can't breastfeed is tiny (less than 1%). I know women who couldn't (literally no milk) and babies who couldn't (tongue-tie). It is hard work, it does hurt, and society is royally fc.uked if women are made to feel uncomfortable feeding in public when it's what boobs are for!

I don't think mothers should be vilified for choosing to formula feed, but I also don't think health professionals/antenatal groups etc should be slagg3d off for promoting breastfeeding.

I don't know about anyone else but yes I do feel uncomfortable. I'd feel self conscious in front of my family too..especially my brothers. I don't know if it's society or just me to be honest :o

I had already decided at my last appointment to express which I thought the midwives would be happy with..not sure they were though although of course it is my choice.:rotfl:

One comment that did irk me was a midwife (I keep seeing different ones) said I wasn't to consider my partner in all the feeding decisions because he'd be off for his 2 week paternity and then straight to work and I'd be solely responsible for feeding. Bit assumptive when I'd met her for first time...how does she know our plans for maternity/paternity!

Anyhow on another note brother has just been round with his partner and 2 children to give me a ton and I mean TON of newborn to 6 month baby clothing! :D
