HSBC CREDIT CARD
Amount claimed £365 + interest.
Amount paid £365
They initially offered a 'full' payment of £180. I returned there offer, pointing our that their maths were wrong, and that the full amount was £365.
They appologised for the error, and offered the real full amount.0 -

Thank you to all that responded to my original post - I rang RBS to find out what was going on - 10 weeks on! They said an offer letter went out on 7th June (which I never received). I asked the nice chappy what the offer was, he told me they are not allowed to say but it was what I claimed for (£1085). Thank you so much Martin for bringing this to everyones attention. I now have a claim outstanding with Abbey for nearly £3,000. Lets hope I have the same success, but I'm not holding my breath!!:T0

After being directed to this site by a friend a few months ago, regarding reclaiming bank charges, I am happy to report a sucess!:T
I didn't relise that my charges had amounted to so much over the past 6 years and was staggered to find I had been charged nearly £1200.
I wrote to my bank as directed on this site, received the standard letter refusing my request. (I'm with HBOS)
I sent the 2nd letter threatening cout action, and less than 2 weeks later i received an offer of £1174!!! (WEY-HEY!!!!) :jAlso with details if I wanted to refuse the offer--UMM NO thats fine Thank you very much!
So as per the HBOS post regarding the standard first refuse letter, it seem as if it may be correct.
What's really annoyed my friend is that she's still waiting months down the line for her bank to respond and is just about to take cout action! Oh Well -Win some -Lose some!!:rotfl:0 -
RBS
Claimed for £3850 :j
Settled on £3009
Having read the article on reclaiming bank charges I felt inspired and justified to begin the process of reclaiming the thousands that my bank had shafted me for over the years.
I have an account with the Royal Bank of Scotland ( and still do so far) and have been with them for many years, around 10 in fact. I carried out all the instructions to the letter and posted my claim plus interest a while ago, with a little trepidation I might add. I received the cursory reply that the bank were reviewing my claim so I then sent the letter detailing my intention to take it to court.
I hadn't heard anything for a while and i was getting ready to proceed with the court action when, suddenly, out of nowhere, I received a letter this morning offering a settlement!
Here's the great part, living in Edinburgh meant that I was subject to Scottish law and could therefor only claim back up to 5 years of charges and a maximum of £750. However, I had decided to ignore these details when I claimed.
My claim was for the last 6 years and totaled £3850 including interest and I had only stated I would be taking my case to the Sheriff Court. Not much hope there you may think. My settlement is for £3009.
Now that's what I call a success story, especially in the light of recent cases that have gone against the claimant.
So, thanks Martin and keep up the great work!

Bank: Yorkshire Bank
Amount claimed: £195.00
Amount received: £195.00
Complained to Bank about charges for returning house deeds when we paid off our mortgage, using your template letter. Wrote at end of February, took ages for them to sort out but they eventually refunded the full amount. Thanks for help. :j0 -
New poster with some good news.
RBS - claimed £560. they offered £467. Accepted
Nat west - Claimed £1312 - full offer accepted
Awaiting cheques on both.
Cap 1 credit card - asked for charge detail. Refunded all charges about £12 without me even asking them. Considering the best thing to do about the rest as I need a credit card and my credit rating is still poor after a few years when business was bad.
The last one RBS credit card is worthy of a thread so I'll start one.
I should add that this site was very helpful in regaining these charges. Thanks.0 -
