Bank: MBNA Credit Card
Amount Claimed: £170
Amount Received: £340
Ooh err, nice one. They sent me a lovely letter following my LBA enclosing my £10 cheque and a note that they were not admitting liability bla bla but were crediting my account. Very nice. Even nicer was a cheque for the same amount which arrived this week. Hope they don't realise the error too soon...Lou0 -
Bank: Halifax acc 1
Amount claimed: £1566 + £372.78 interest = £1938.78
Amount received: £1616.00
Bank: Halifax 2
Amount claimed: £879 + £338.54 interest = £1217.54
Amount received: £997.00
I sent my request for my bank statesments and received thoughs pretty quickly. I sent my initial complaint/demand letter on the 11th April 2007. I requested £2445 + £711.32 interest. Halifax did stand by the time schedules they quoted to me. I did not want to go to court because i was scared (weakling, i know). Well i received an offer today for £808 on acc 1 and £498.50 on acc 2, i called to state that I would not accept the offer and also to query the amounts. I was then offered £997 on acc 2 and £616 on acc1, i queried the amounts and was avised that some of my charges were more than 6yrs old. I stated that if you look at the charges prior to April 2001 they only add up to £200, so what has happend to the rest. I was then asked if it was ok for them to call me back. I said ok as i had nothing to lose, got my call back. Apparently there was a mistake on their calculation and they were willing to offer me the £1616 and £997. I was asked if it was ok (i thought sure bloody) i said yes not too fussed about the interest, as the offer is more than the actual charges taken. So today i am a happy bunny, and am awaiting the funds in my account.

Just wanted to say thanks a lot for all your advice and help on the MoneySavingExpert website Martin.
I have finally recieved my money after nearly seven months from Barclays Bank PLC.
I started the process in December 2006 and got my money this month. Claimed £4145 back in bank charges and Barclays made me an offer of £4245, including interest. I decided to accept their offer rather than take the issue to the county court.
I would advise anyone undertaking this process to get your money from the banks or thinking of doing it to stay the course and regardless of what is reported in the media or the personal views of those around you, stick to your guns and ensure you follow the step by step process all the way. Barclays appeared to leave it to the last possible moment before making an offer, imagine because they hoped i would back down, but in the end their made an offer. I was all prepared to go to the county court and convince the judge why i should get my money awarded to me.
Trust me, it is worth the effort and work in the end !!!0 -
 Just a note to say thanks recieved £3000.00 back from Barclays took approx 4 months start to finish, didn't get to court stages claim was for £4000.00 they paid 75% as good will gesture.
Thanks Martin0 -

Bank: Royal Bank of Scotland
Amount Reclaimed: £8,435.65
Amount they paid:£7,796.00
The story:
After getting statements, they did not charge me for, sent first letter claiming £8,435.65 and offering to accept £7,592.09 (90% of charges), I gave them 14 days to reply, they didn't, sent another letter claiming all the charges plus interest, again no response. Rang at beginning of June, and recorded the conversation, bank explained that due to number of claims it was taking longer than expected to respond. Today (27/6/07), the day before I was intending to start the court proceedings, received an offer of £7,796. I had a Royalties Gold account which has a monthly charge of £15 which I forgot about and tried to claim back. Accepted the offer today and waiting for the money to arrive in my account.
Total result, thank you Martin.
Stick with it, and be polite and reasonable, you will get a result.0 -
Bank NatWest
Amount claimed 3,800
Amount received 2,800
I claimed through a third party (F. McManus and Co)
To be honest I didn't expect anything. Much to my amazement was offered 2,800 and the cheque was received within 14 days. No mention of court action. Wouldn't have known it was possible if I hadn't heard Martin on the radio. Keep up the good work and thanks!!0
