Bank Charges Success Stories II

Claimed: £5,600 with interest
Offered and accepted: £3887
The Royal Bank of Scotland on a closed account and it was a completely painless process with them. It took just over three months.
I wish the same could be said for Abbey, but they have sent me some charges and not others. I've also reported them to the Information Commissioner's office, so am waiting for their next batch of letters to be sent to Abbey.
I am over the moon about RBS charges, although of course I would have rather had use of the money at the time.

Bank: Lloyds TSB
Amount Reclaimed: £195 (Included interest)
Amount they paid: £202
The story:
I had charges amounting to £160 so I thought i'd add interst on top to make it worth doing so it came to £195. I asked for my list of charges which came through eventually. This started in March 2007.
All other letters I sent got ingnored then just last Friday 22nd June 2007 I got a letter saying they don't generally refund any charged but on this occasion they would, within 10 days. :j
I checked my bank account online the same day I got the letter and there was £202 listed as 'goodwill gesture' :rotfl:
It came at a great time as we were going to Butlins for a long weekend that day.
If I hadn't had the 'offer letter' by the time I had come back from my long weekend away I was going to take them to court.
Thankyou Martin for you draft letters.

Bank: HSBC
Amount Reclaimed: £125 (Originally £250)
Amount they paid: £125 (Already received £125)
The story:
Two months where I got multiple charges of £100 and £150 respectively. On two different occasions after spotting each charge I questioned it by phone with HSBC customer services who offered to refund half. I accepted noting that I would still persue the rest.
Then became aware of MSE and all advice, so.....
>> Sent initial letter claiming remaining £125.
>> Quick generic response after a week claiming to look into it further.
>> No response for 21 days so sent second letter but not actually stating I would take court action (planning to be gentle one more time)
>> No response so send third letter stating would begin court action etc etc as per template on MSE site.
>> Today After 12 more days, received letter from HSBC offering full payment although they believed they would win in court as fees are clearly laid out in terms and conditions etc etc. fee for deciding whether to pay the transaction when over overdraft limit.
Success for me though - just need to see money in my account on return of a form they've asked me to sign.
Cheers martin and all.

I wasn't quite sure where this was going. I managed to get the chrges all paid back but without interest. the way i see it, half a loaf is better than none and I am well chuffed. Persistence pays off people. Without it we all won't be here. I plan to use the money to pay off what i owe. Keep at it people and don't let rejection deter you.
Special thanks to Martin lewis. Without you, this would have never been possible!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so pleased :j :j :j :j :T :T :T

Bank - LLOYDS (!!!!!!)
amount claimed £1500.00 (just under, including interest and costs)
amount received - ALL OF IT
story - started March 3rd with polite request for the return of all the money they had snaffled.
they lived up to their reputation, ignored ALL my letters so I stopped waiting and filed an online claim, which they defended and a court date was set for August 31st
This morning a letter from their solicitors brightened my day with a "Without Prejudice, we're in the right and you're rubbish etc etc BUT let's settle out of court and here's your money." Nice.
They sent a second letter saying I should think about how I want to conduct my acount and to call their customer services and ask for a bigger overdraft (they won't give me one, if they had I wouldn't've been charged so much)
anyway, I don't need it since I've now reclaimed £12000.00!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again to Martin and all the other mods and posters on this site and also on CAG

Hi glad to say that I received my bank charges from Royal Bank of Scotland. The first letter I requested the previous 6 yrs bank statements. They sent them in a large brown envelope - no compliment slip (!) The second letter they posted to me was a 'mail merge.' I sent the third letter and they replied with a letter from Head Office saying they were looking into it. Just before letter four they sent me a long protracted letter stating why the charges were fair and just. Just as I was begining to feel rejected the final paper said however on this occasion as a gesture of goodwill...... YIPPEE! I claimed for £1856.76 and accepted £1580.00. I am now on with NatWest for my business account charges £2800. Are there any moneysavers who have successfully claimed bank charges for a business account? In addition to my business bank charge claim my daughter has also tried to claim back £365 with NatWest, but they have ignored every letter. I told her to keep going.0

Thank you everyone for advice and encouragement - I have been slightly overpaid in refunded bank charges from Capital One! Total refunded: £567.13. (I requested a bit less, but I guess they have added some for court fees which they would have to pay if I didn't withdraw my claim!! Initial request for repayment - 5th May 2007. Full amount received - 26 June 2007Via MCOL online.0

 Hi all
Amount claimed £1338
Amount recieved £1254
Started my claim in March after waiting 8 weeks as i couldn't afford the £120 court fee as i have already paid that to take Lloyds Tsb to court (and im still waiting started 28.02.07) i then got standard Bog off letter. I called up the number and asked for a re-evaluation. After then waiting another 6 weeks, i recieved a letter on Saturday offering me a goodwill gesture of £627. I tried all day Monday to get through when i finally did was told someone would ring back. When i recieved no phone call i rang at 4.45pm to be told the guy i needed to speak to wasn't in. So i called this morning at 9am. I was told again the guy wasn't in but they would get someone else to ring me in 10 mins. Sure enough 10 mins later the phone rings. I was on for 5 mins and we agreed at £1254 just £84 less than what i asked for and i'd included overdraft interest!! So for all you who think you'll be he to lose(like i did) hold on in there they just drag there heels. Good luck everyone i'll keep you informed of my fight against Lloyds court date is 8th August!! Thanks Cally:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

Bank: Halifax plc
Amount Reclaimed: £1025.62
Amount they paid: £1150.42
The story:
Sent my claim to MCOL after Halifax rejected my 1st & 2nd letters. Went through to Northampton County Court; who sent the bank an Acknowledgment Of Service Form which they returned by June 7th.
Last Friday 21st June Halifax wrote saying they'd returned the Form and were willing to refund £847.00 charges, the £183.42 interest calculated and the £120.00 Court fee (MCOL); totalling £1,150.42 which would be paid into my account within 5 working days.
Sure enough, I logged into my account online yesterday and there the refunded £1,150.42 was.
This whole process took just over a month and I guess it's mainly down to following Martin's guidelines. Cheers!:T
Still, in Halifax's letter there was a line about "without admission of liability" in deciding to pay the money back.
Sounds like a**e-covering.0
