Bank 1 - Hsbc
Recovered £411. Took A Total Of 5 Letters In All And A Period Of 2 Months. Always Wrote To Local Branch As Letters Sent To Central Office Didn't Get A Response. They Didn't Charge Me For Duplicate Statements Either.
I Had To Threaten Small Claims Court Action To Get The Desired Response But It Worked.
Bank 2 - Alliance & Leicester. Took 5-6 Letters With Responses From The Bank Refusing To Accept Any Wrong-doing. Again Persistance Paid Off With Charges Of £436 Refunded. Total Time Again About 2 Months
Bank 3- Lloyds Tsb - Recovered £206. Really Please About This One- Especially Given The Recent Press And Comments From The Bank. Took 3 Months On This And Again Responses From The Bank Denied They Had Acted Wrongly. 6 Letters Required And Had Visions Of Court Hearings Etc.
I Used The Templates Available From This Website For Each Bank And Towards The End I Was Giving Them 7 Days Not 14 To Respond. Just Be Persistant And If Possible, Correspond With Your Local Branch As This Seems To Improve The Chances Of The Letter Being Responded To.
Just Waiting From Hsbc On My Wife's Claim For £2500+ But Given They Have Already Settled On Our Joint Account, Our Hopes Are High.
Thanks To Moneysavingexpert.com- Great Site And Resources. I Have Been Successful In Recovering About £1,000 In The Past Couple Of Months - A Really Great Late Christmas Present!!

I passed your advice on to my daughter who made a claim against Nat West for £2,800 for charges for the past two years and they re-paid in full. However they have not yet ceased to impose the same extortionate charges. But thankyou for this excellent advice.0

Happy Days!!!!!
Bank: HSBC
Amount claimed: £1217
Amount paid: £1068
I waited the full 8 weeks for their response (with a little chase at 7 weeks by phone). and they offered the £1068. I gave a little phone chase to see if I could get this upped to nearer my claim and they said to put it in writing. Not that fussed as I've got over £1000 back I never expected to ever see again!
Now wait to see how quick they put the money in my account!
Thanks Martin,:money: the best site on the web. On top of bank charges I think you've saved me more than a £500 on car, home insurance, gym membership etc! :j
I now have 3 family members and many more work colleagues busy claiming their money back. :A0 -
Bank: RBS
Amount Reclaimed: £1,000
Amount they paid: £1,568
The story: I sent three letters in total, between March and May and when I had no reply to either of them, I decided to lodge a small claims court action against them at a cost of £80 (refundable if you win). I decided to claim £1,000 which did not include Royalties fees, which I thought they would be unwilling to pay and this would just lead to a long drawn out process. However, on the day I lodged the action, I received an unconditional offer of £1,568, so I duly cancelled the court action, got my £80 back and bit their hand off.
Many, many thanks Martin

Bank: Bank of Scotland/Halifax
Amount Reclaimed: £4432
Amount they paid: £4432
The story so far:
I called telephone banking on 15th March asking for my bank statements for the past five years (as I am in Scotland) and paid £5. Obtained statements (highlighted all charges and included my own spreadsheet) and sent my claim for £4432. Received a reply saying we are looking into it. Sent another letter 16th April threatening court action and received a reply saying they have 8 weeks to reply and I would receive a reply by 28th May. Decided to wait 8 weeks (personal reasons) and received a letter 21st May saying "charges are true" and declining my complaint. I called on 23rd May to say I was not happy and would be going to the FOS, they said they would review it. Called back several times to be told they would excalate my complaint!?! (l was told that they are delcining everyone at first) Decided to call again on 4th June and spoke to a really stroppy male, complained to him and asked for someone else to call me back. Within 5 mins one of his colleagues had called back and told me I would hear by 6th June. No letter rec'd on 6th June called and was told a letter was in the post tonight with the outcome. 7th June, letter on doormat with offer of just over half (£2256.50), called the number (Dunfermline - much nicer and friendlier people) at the top of the letter and said I was not happy with the amount, haggled for a few seconds and she asked me what I would accept, I said the whole lot, she said "I can do that". Rec'd letter 8th June confirming full offer of £4432!!!!!!!!!. V.happy - didn't believe they would give me lot. Will be in my bank account in 14 days (no closing of account, no messing with my o'draft - thank goodness and no court process!?!?!?!!?). Happy days, roll on the summer and thanks to everyone on this site with their success stories - it really helped me to keep going - even when I thought I would get nothing.0 -
I finally got my bank charges back from abbey after 3 months. I was about to go to the 3rd stage when i got a letter offering £480. I had originally asked for about £450 but had a couple of charges since then so i ended up getting more than i actually asked for in the first place as they refunded the recent charges!!
and they didnt even close my account down!!0
