2.
Bank: Barclays
Amount Reclaimed: £1800
Amount they paid: £1800
The story:
followed the steps in the article, they offered £1000 we rejected and logged a claim online. They acknowledged and defended so we got a court date through for July. However the judge asked the defendent to supply a list of the charges being claimed and justification for these one month prior to the court date - what a clever man!!! So, here we are 1 week before Barclays had to submit this info and they settled!! Just in time for our holidays - hurrah!!!!:heart2: Cookiepops :heart2:0 -

Just want to say thanks to Martin and everyone on here who's helped me or not.
First Direct : Claimed £3950 plus £1100 int = £5050
First Direct : Offered nothing - charges are legal
Went to FO
First Direct : Now offered £3900
After the refusal letters from FD I took this case to the Ombudsman and after just 6 weeks I've just had letter off FD who have offered me £3900 without prejadice:eek: . Am accepting. Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who's helped or not and just to wish you all the very best in your claims. Never thought I'd 'win' but looking at some of the threads on here has pushed me along and kept me going. I'm just so glad to have gotten one in for the little guy and if any of you are doubting the whole thing(like I was several times) all I can say is 'GO FOR IT' - It's worth it in the end!!
This amount is going to pay off my £800 credit card debt and will go a huge way towards a deposit for a house my girlfriend and I are saving up for (only a couple more months now and we'll be there hopefully). We're both so grateful (and relieved)!!
All the best everyone0 -
I was helping my Wife claim back charges for going beyond her OD limit with the Halifax. We put in a claim going back SEVEN years!. Total £1088 inc interest worked out on this sites calculator plus £62 for court fee. Did the whole thing online with the court system. Halifax have paid up today well before their deadline.. The WHOLE thing.. All effortless. They didn't threaten any account closure. Thanks for the advice.Martin:money: Get out there and NAIL THE THIEVEN' B******s!!

Coming through.....
Sorry, that's the sound of my one woman conga and my one woman party!
After 3 letters, umpteen phone calls, 2 e mails and a lot of waiting around, Ive just been offered back all my charges minus interest from RBS.
I asked for just over £2000, and have been offered just over £1500 (the total of all charges before interst), so think i'll probably stick!
The letter started off doomy and gloomy, and I basically thought they were going to say 'See you in court', but somewhere ON THE SECOND PAGE of the letter, just as I was losing all hope, there was the offer.
Thank you to Martin, to all who have posted on here, and especially my fella, as without all of your encouragement I wouldn't have got anywhere.
So now here are my debts at present -
Credit cards (consolidated onto one 0% card) = £2,200:mad:
Store card = £90 (will pay off with next pay pack)
Loans = £1,600 (paid off with this money back!)
Student Loan = £6,000:mad:
Overdraft = £700:mad:
As you can see, i'm mad about these so the main thing now is to pay off the CC, which at £300 per month will be 7 months, then only really overdraft and student loan to worry about.
2 years and I'll be completely debt free!:T
YeeeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaa:rotfl:

Natwest
Amount reclaimed: £809
Amount (agreed) to pay (as I'll believe it when it's here): £809.
On behalf of my wife, who is hopefully £809 better off (well not actually, we've our first baby due any day now so that money will soon be gone, but a cot's better coming out of this than our pockets). The procedure advocated on this site was followed to the full, without adaption or exception: initial letter, LBA (a few weeks late as planning for a new arrival does shift your priorities and !!!!!! your planning somewhat), then a couple of weeks before the 14 day deadline my wife called them up to enquire if anything had been resolved (as stated in their standard response), to be informed that the money had been agreed to be refunded. That was two weeks ago; she today received a letter agreeing to full and final settlement (we checked it over carefully - no mention of agreeing not to take them to court again, etc). So, hopefully, she should have HER money back pretty soon (it's a victory, all right, but actually it was HER money in the first bloody place). Our daughter's going to be called Ellie May, by the way, and she sends her thanks!
Sincerely, we can't thank you, Martin, and all the other moneysavers out there enough: if it wasn't for you we'd really be struggling now to get the essentials a new arrival needs (cot, moses basket, car seat, changing mat, etc, etc - by God it adds up), particularly in this day and age when we pay so much damn tax we're markedly poorer than we were 6/7 years ago! Best wishes to you all and our sincere hopes for your own successes. P.s. martin,. we owe you a pint.0 -
Bank: HSBC
Amount Reclaimed: £250.65 (including interest)
Amount they paid: £227.50 (without interest) :j
The story:
1st letter sent 25th March, received letter back (9th April) from the lovely Colin saying they would investigate within 8 weeks. Sent 2nd letter on 13th April.
I actually decided to wait the 8 weeks so I called 8 weeks to the day (4th June) after I got the letter from Colin, was told I would hear within 10 days. Got a letter on 6th June saying they'd pay it all minus the interest!! Result!! :T :T
Thanks to every one on here who helps out (especially EdinbughGlass) - couldn't have done it without you all!! :beer:Official DFW Nerd no: 563 - Proud to be dealing with my debts:j0 -
Bank - Halifax
Amount claimed 860 + Interest on top (bout £60)
Amount to be paid 860 (no interest)
I sent the first letter in April requesting my statements, heard nothing for a month so phoned up, got the statements within three days. added up all the charges, sent the letter off to claim them back, got a letter back within a week saying charges are fair, no refund etc, phoned them that day to say I wasnt happy with that, they said they would pass it on to a senior person to look at again. That was about two weeks ago I think. I found out today via telephone banking that £429 had been put in to my account (hadnt received a letter to tell me that), spoke to an adviser, they gave me the number of the customer relations manager who had dealt with it. I took a deep breath, phoned him up, had a very decent converstation in which I said that basically I wasnt happy with the amount and that I wanted the full amount,he said Ok, without the interest and I said fine, that will do. He was actually a lovely bloke who listened very carefully to what I was saying so I was very happy with that and EXTREMELY relieved that it was so easy to do!!
I can't believe I have actually got this back and I am immensely grateful to this site (and Martin especially) for giving me the confidence to do it. I was really wobbling a few weeks ago then I saw him on GMTV taking on that ridiculous woman representing the banks and it really helped fire me up again! I have been bled dry by the banks for years and have got into serious debt, exacerbated by their astronomical charges, to the the point where I have had to remortgage two years ago to get myself out of the mess. This is great - I have been reading success stories on here for weeks now and couldnt imagine that I might be one of them. I wish everyone going through this the very best of luck.
I have another claim with RBS outstanding for £4200 so this has really boosted my confidence today. After them I will be going after cooperative, egg and alliance and leicester credit cards.
Thanks so much to everyone here for your inspiration and encouragement.0 -
HSBC
Amount - 570pounds
Amount successfully claimed - 693pounds (mcol fee/interest added)
Went thru the motions via this site, followed all the timelines and 2 weeks ago was sent the AQ dispenced with letter.
On the same day HSBC applied a further small charge to my account so i thought i'd send a message telling them that i'd allow this small charge if they agreed to refund everything else. To my amazement they agreed!
Signed the forms and expect the money any day now
thanks to all on this site!0 -

NATWEST BANK

SENT SNOTTY LETTER TO BRANCH MANAGER, PRESTO WEEK LATER RECIEVED GOODWILL GESTURE OFFER OF 1130.00 AMOUNT CLAIMED LESS INTEREST. WHICH I HASTILY RETURNED BY RECORDED DELIVARY. STILL HAD TO PHONE BOREHAM WOOD TWICE TO CHASE UP MONEY. THIS TOOK OVER 3 WEEKS TO SHOW UP IN MY ACCOUNT. THEY DIDNT HAVE ANY KNOWLEDGE OF MY CLAIM WHEN I PHONED THEM, I REALLY DONT THINK THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, EITHER THAT OR THEY HOPE YOU WIL JUST GIVE UP AND GO AWAY. Bank: Halifax
Amount Reclaimed: £2233.89 (Interest of £394.89 included & court costs)
Amount they paid: £2233.89
The story: Originally sent off for statements in March, they delayed them until last minute and sent them a few days after I rang to complain. Then sent the template letters off and got the usual "these charges are in your t&a and you are bound to them". Sent next letter off.
Eventually took them to court through Money claims online and paid the £120 court fees. Halifax responded stating they were going to defend the whole amount.
One week before I could enter the judgement they sent me a letter saying they was paying the full amount including interest and court costs. Result!! Money is in my bank account!!
Was a lot of hard work and I wouldn't off done it without the help from this website and Martins step by step guide.
Thank you!!0
