Bank Charges Success Stories II

  • Hi everyone, I claimed financial hardship on bank charges of £2000 with yorkshire bank, after a lot of heartache, telephone calls and letters and telephoning every week and a case going through with the Financial Ombudsman Service (who are still working on my claim), I received a letter today from Yorkshire Bank giving me £700.00 credit into my account (supposedly to help me with my financial hardship).

I tried to use my bank card for shopping last night and my card was declined, so in one way I have been partially successful, but crediting the £700.00 into my account only achieved one thing and that was partially paying off my overdraft, so the bank have achieved one thing and that was to credit themselves.

I telephoned bank this morning and they informed me that the credit has gone into my account, but they have closed my account and that the outstanding debt on my overdraft has now been passed to their debt collection department.

I didn't expect this and was reduced to tears in the supermarket having to leave the shopping.......the embarrassement!

Be careful, I don't know what to do next apart from wait for the FOS outcome which I hope will be in my favour. I am disgusted that they can do this. BEWARE EVERYONE!

    Bank: RBS
    Claim: £152.00
    Time: 3 months

Please note though that I have charges on my 3 accounts and RBS were quite clever in offering settlement on the account with the smallest charges.

I was about to decline the offer as their charges are £1052.00 and when I received the letter of "goodwill" I was disappointed to see that it was only £152.00 - but when I reread the letter it stated in very small print that it was for 1 account.

I called them and they said it was an "oversight" on their part.

So keep an eye if you are claiming on more than one account.

    Paid: £152.00
    Total Quidco earnings - £547.98

Everyone is scared of someone or something, everyone loves someone or something, and everyone has lost someone or something! BE NICE!

as for the leaving the shopping at the chkout at the supermarket, i have been there and done that many times over the years.., any other means of paying sir, they say.....nope i say, then go....mainly all due to charges that put my account in arrears.... as for paying of overdraft and debts that you owe the bank, out of your award, yep they do do that...even though you dont get the money in hand, it still reduces your debt a bit, until they start charging you again

I have answered on your thread but it is a double breach of the FSA Waiver on Bank Charges in my opinion.

Did they make any offer whatsoever to you initially before you went to the FOS?
