    Bank - RBS
    Claimed - 2400.00
    Paid - 1349.00
Time Taken - About 3 Months

First wrote off for statements in June, thinking it wouldn't be more than a couple of hundred pounds. Was absolutely astounded to find it was 2400.00, to July 2001 and with interest.

Wrote off first asking for the whole amount, sent copies of everything but the kitchen sink, arrears letters for mortgage, council tax, utilities etc. Proof of my disability, and a full income and expenditure listing. They wrote back asking me to fill in their hardship form and send off copies of hubby's payslips.

I wrote back saying that as I had already given them this info, the hardship form was exactly the same and so I had just copied it verbatim from mine. Also sent two copies of payslips.

Then received a letter saying that due to statute of limitations blah blah blah, they would only look at the case back to July 2003. Not sure where I stand with this but would love some replies!!
I think I love you because you have it in writing a blatant and unadulterated BREACH of the FSA Waiver. Hook, Line and sinker, I thank you.
Email this specific amount with regards to a breach of the FSA Waiver with regards to the Statute of Limitations bit to: centralwaiversteam@fsa.gov.uk
Apologies for the over loving start to the post ;)
A couple of phone calls later, received an offer for £1349.00 with the usual "will look again when test case ends". Am really happy with this amount, as it means we can pay off some worrying debts which have accumulated due to my brain haemmorhage and my hubby having to take time off work to look after me and our two children.

I wouldn't say they were the easiest bank to get the money from - Barclays were much quicker and more sympathetic, but am happy at least with the outcome.

See the bit in black cos you got something many don't have which is black and white evidence of a breach of the FSA waiver on bank charges. Love it, I absolutely love it.

Naughty RBS thats two in two days of these letters, please please please send a copy of your letter to the FSA waiver team. Show them its not isolated incidences but they are flagrantly and openly breaching the waiver set in place to protect consumers, as well as the banks. they just need a kick to enforce the damn thing.

    Amount reclaimed: £550
    Amount repaid: £511.50
The story: Had been meaing to reclaim for ages, but never got around to it. My situation changed and I found myself in financial hardship. I followed Martin's procedures for claiming out of hardship, and sent the first letter on 30/07/09. I just received the funds into my account today, 28/08/09. Whole process in less than 4 weeks... I'm absolutely ecstatic! Thanks guys for your help, this is a MUCH needed victory.

    Amount reclaimed £4800
    Amount paid £3505

I discovered when reading this blog that i could reclain bank charged back over 5 years when i checked it out i discovered i was charged almost £5k. I used the letters posted on line by martin lewis and requested repayment of charges and on the second letter saying i would accept a settlement Ulster Bank has now made an offer of £3505 with 60days to reply. They want to change my current account to a STEP account which i believe is a basic account. I hope to ring them next week to finalise the deal. I am really grateful for the help i have recieved on this site and the money will go to clearing my overdraft and credit card bill. I will be debt free for the first time in along time:jMany Many Thanks for your help i could not have done it without this site:rotfl:
  • Hi

Can you claim bank charges for credit card accounts that may be now closed? A friend had to consolidate 5 cards, after paying several monthly fees, but has since closed those accounts. Would appreciate anyone's help.

    Thanks

  • Sorry can i just ask, those of you with barclays, who have had claims back, do you still have your account with them?
  • Hi all,
    SUCCESS!!
    Natwest
    Claimed - £5100
    Offered - £4700
accepted today and money will apparently be in my account in 10 days!!
    so happy!
  • Bank: Abbey
Amount Reclaimed: £1500 (including interest it is £1700)
    Amount they paid: £810
The story: Wrote a letter only about 4 weeks ago to Abbey using the template on the MSE website, saying I was experiencing financial hardship and wanted all the bank charges back from the last 6 years including interest. They wrote a standard response back to me and asked me to complete a form regarding my ingoings and outgoing which I never got round to completing. They also said that they would not be settling any claims till after the test case has gone through but they would keep my claim on file till then.
Then yesterday I received another letter saying they had looked into my case further and agreed that I was in financial hardship and offered me £810 which is all the bank charges I have incurred in the last 12 months! In addition to this, as the money offered (which I received in my account today) was a goodwill gesture and not a settlement, my claim still remains open until the test case has gone through, which means I could still get more monies back at a later date! Never expected anything so this is definitely happy days!
    Thanks Martin & the team!!:money::T

That is fantastic - and thanks to this fab site, and all users for help so far..
But...I'm really stuck with smile (started new post yesterday on this) who have accepted hardship but won't refund charges. Has anyone else managed to get anything back from them?
Oh and my husband got his charges back from Barclays and still banks with them...
