Bank Charges Success Stories II

Bank: Nationwide
Amount Should be Paid: £90.00
Amount Cancelled: £90.00
The Story: received my monthly bank statement last week saying i was going to be charged £90.00 for 3 returned direct debits...not very happy to say the least. first thing i did was come onto here and look up what to do next. i printed off the web page that said the bank could realistically charge you would be £2.50-£4.50 being generous. i took this with me...
When talking to the lady behind the information desk in the Nationwide and telling her i simply didnt have the funds to pay for the charges she said she could put a claim in for one of the charges - of which i was pretty happy with to say the least...when she mentioned she wouldnt be able to put anything in to stop the bank charges for the other £60.00 - id read on this site to tell the bank i wanted to shut my bank account down - this is what i said - only because i had my 'parachute' bank account at Natwest - who have been more then helpful with any of my problems!! - so in the end we just 'sorted' the problem out and that was that...
So...today (17.06.08) i received a letter from the bank saying they were going to cancel all £90.00 of my charges. :T Happy days!....so i didnt actually pay anything...i just followed the instructions as per this website and et voila!...just got to wait ten days now to see if they actually do this!!! :S
thank you very muchly Mr Lewis!!! :j0 -
BANK HALIFAX/BANK OF SCOTLAND
AMOUNT RECLAIMED £3150
AMOUNT PAID £3150
:T :j
MY INITIAL CLAIM UNDER FINANCIAL HARDSHIP WAS REFUSED I WAS ADVISED THAT, FOLLOWING THE REVIEW OF THE FINANCIAL HARDSHIP YOU ARE CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING, WE DO NOT FEEL IT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE TO RESPOND TO YOUR CLAIM PRIOR TO THE OUTCOME OF THE COURT CASE.
I WROTE AGAIN REQUESTING A COMPREHENSIVE REPORT OF DATA THEY UTILIZED TO COMPLETE THE ASSESSMENT? THE WAIVER THAT ALLOWS BANKS TO SUSPEND CLAIMS DOES NOT APPLY TO PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING FINANCIAL DIFFFICULTIES.
HOWEVER, DUE TO YOUR PREVIOUS STATEMENT “YOU DO NOT FEEL IT WAS APPROPRIATE TO RESPOND TO MY CLAIM PRIOR TO THE OUTCOME OF THE COURT CASE“.I HAVE GRAVE CONCERNS THAT YOU FAILED TO COMPLETE THE ASSESSMENT IN ACCORDANCE WITH YOUR RESPONSIBILITES UNDER THE BANKING CODE, BANKS WILL HAVE TO CONDUCT A FILTERING PROCESS TO ENSURE THAT CASES OF GENUINE HARDSHIP ARE DEALT WITH DURRING THE WAIVER PERIOD
I RECEIVED A REPLY TO ADVISE ME THAT FOLLOWING A QUALITY REVIEW THEY HAVE RECONSIDERED MY FINANCIAL HARDSHIP CIRCUMSTANCES.
FULL SETTLEMENT £3150 WILL BE CREDITED WITHIN 14 DAYS.

Bank: Bank of Scotland
Amount Reclaimed: £5786
Amount they paid: £5786
The story:
Usual story, claim money, Bank said no, contacted Financial Obudsman Service, they contacted Bank, Bank said all claims on hold.
Asked the FSO to review my case on the grounds of financial difficulties, they contacted Bank and asked that my case be reviewed. Bank offered me the total amount claimed for the last SIX years.
The FSO were brilliant, thanks very much to all involved, and of course for Martin's advice in the first place.0 -

My first post,to say what a help this website has been.
I decided to reclaim the charges on three credit cards that I have now paid off,got my first result today.Tried to reclaim £118 from Lloyds TSB ,after the first expected refusal letter I threatened court action, today I got the usual response i.e. "we think our charges are fair etc etc blah blah , but as a goodwill gesture we will pay you £655"!!!!! Suits me.no problems there. Thanks very much Martin. Just waiting to hear from Capital One and MBNA and hoping for a similar response.:beer:0 -
after getting exactly half my bank charges paid into my account the day before reclaiming was put on hold i resigned myself to wait until the out come of the court case, in may this year i received more charges and as i am single parent on benefits i'd had enough so contacted fos yesterday recieved letter from them with an offer from the halifax of 1.305.50 which is a full refund. If you think your a hardship case go for it wot have you got to lose.:j0

Bank: Halifax
Amount Claimed: Account 1: £2680 Account 2: £3051
Amount Received: Account 1: £2944 Account 2: £3315
I lurked on this forum for ages watching all the success stories but being scared to claim for myself. However I requested my list of charges in April 2007. I never received them until August/September by which time the stay was in place. The postman delivered hundreds of envelopes containing previous statements.
I then decided on 1 June this year to write to them to get in the queue. On 3 July I got a letter regarding account 1. They said that they believed I met the financial difficulties criteria (I never asked them about this) and would pay me £2944 without liability of admission.
Then on 18 July I received a letter stating much the same thing and offering me £3315.
You will see I got more than I claimed on both accounts. I'm not sure if they added interest or whether I had missed some charges.
With regard to financial difficulties I never at any time asked the Halifax to consider this all I did was send letter 1 for both accounts. However I do have credit card debt with them which is on a DMP with CCCS. The 2 accounts I had claimed on where both over their limits (thanks to charges mainly). I did a small amount mortgage arrears but these have now been capitalised and normal payments are taking place.
So my advice to anyone reading is if you have charges put in the claim, you have absolutely nothing to lose. I got all this money back for the price of 2 x 2nd class stamps and 1 phone call to request the charges info.
Thanks once again to Martin, Nickmack, Edinburghlass and all the other great people on this site. :T0
