  • ABBEY
    Amount Reclaimed: £3059.80
    Amount paid: £3059.80
Story: Finally the bank caved in. I had a Judgement for Claimant order made against the Abbey on the 23 July 2007 and when I went into my local Abbey branch, the manager refused to talk to me about it. He kept going on about the OFT announcement regarding bank charges. I told him that had no bearing on my case because the Judge had already ruled in my favour but he still refused to even listen to me. I said I would get in the bailiffs. Well I did not have the money at the time to pay for the Bailiffs but I received a phone call from the Abbey's solicitors saying that they will in no uncertain terms pay me the money owed. Even though I had a court order they still refused to listen They were basically saying that Warrington County Court were liars. Anyway a letter arrived saying that they were going to try and get the order set aside this Thursday (30 August 2007). But low and behold on Saturday morning a cheque for the full amount arrived. This has been going on since the begining of February and at last I can now get on with the rest of my life knowing I have no money worries. I would just like to say a big thank you for all help received through this website and my family and I appreciate everyone involved. Thanks a lot Mrs Joanne McLoughlin

    Bank: HSBC Business Account
    Amount Reclaimed: £120
    Amount they paid: £120

    The story:
Got charged £8 per day for going overdrawn by £15. By the time i had realised it was £120.

Phoned them. They called me back and offered as gesture of goodwill the full amount back.

It was a brand new account so i guess benefit of the doubt.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
    Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

    Alliance & Leicester : £1217 + interest requested
    Paid: £609 +£120 court fee

Its small success, but I didn't want to go all the way to court given that I'm quite unorganised so I probably wouldnt have won, and I figured its £609 I'd written off and never thought I'd see again.

Whether the money ever actually makes it to my new bank account is a different matter, it was paid into my A&L account, as soon as it was I called to close the account & transfer the money to my new natwest account, the money is currently 'missing in action' and has been so for 10 days....

    Barclaycard

    Claimed:

    £72.00 charges (3 x £24 charges)
    £23.12 interest

    total: £95.12

Was expecting the usual difference between old charges & price of new charges which would mean getting £36.00 back.

However got a letter from them saying above but giving me back the full amount of £95.12 - obviously an error on their part but now in writing & now credited to my account - HEE HEE

    wont say no

  • Lloyds TSB.
Amount claimed; £5026 (including interest as calculated by me)
    Settlement amount; £4750.

I started my claim back in November 2006 by requesting my account records for the last 6 years and paid my £10 fee for the privilege. They arrived just in time for Christmas so after the Queen's Speech I tackled them and came up with a reasonable figure to submit for my claim. After a dismissive letter from somebody in the Customer Services Recovery Team with a photo-copied signature, I replied saying I did not agree with their explanation and intended to continue pursuing my claim. After a few more weeks I received a further response offering £750 as a 'goodwill gesture' which, in no way, implied any admission of liability on their part.
I decided I was not happy with their goodwill gesture as it didn't seem particularly generous in view of the amount I originally claimed. I decided to tell the Financial Ombudsman about my claim so far and left it with them.
After a fairly short time (about 10 days I think) I received instructions from my 'case officer' as to how to proceed and, after submitting copies of all information I had previously sent to the bank, sat back to await a reply.
My Case Officer duly sent me a letter stating they felt I had a legitimate claim and had contacted the bank with a recommendation to pay up or else!
A very short time later I received a further letter from the Financial Ombudsman stating that they had received a settlement offer of £4000 in respect of my claim and did I consider it an acceptable offer.
After some consideration and deliberation ( about 10 minutes I think!) I replied that I would be happy to accept their offer and so that amount was credited to my account at the beginning of July.
One final note... I have to admit I was more than a little worried about possible repercussions from the bank but I have to hand it to Lloyds TSB for maintaining a professional attitude throughout the process and for them not imposing any restrictions or even asking me to leave. I still enjoy the level of customer service I've come to expect from them and still enjoy the same facilities on my account that I had before the claim.
Full marks for gentlemanly conduct to them!

    Alan.

The story: I followed Martin's script and wrote for details of all charges on my account. Although it took a while to get the details (they arrived on the last day of my deadline) I wrote again for a full refund. To my surprise, they refunded the full amount within a week as a "good will gesture".

I also telephoned C&G for a refund of my Mortgage Exit fee. To my surpise again, they were able to tell me there and then that I was due a refund of £140.00 - which arrived in the post a week later.

Big thanks to Martin and all you folks who have also reclaimed and won!

  • Amount Reclaimed: £4152.34
    Amount they paid:£2465

I had a £3500 overdraft and had just hit £3700 when they got nasty, pay day was only around the corner. I jumped to another bank, swapped all DD and SO, salary paid in and hit NW with a claim, they continued to put interest on during claim and handed to a debt recovery agency.

So far I have fobbed everyone off and attempted to up the figure to my original.

bash bing bong I get another letter £2465 take it or leave it 60 days to reply....I submit its a good offer and removes some considerable debt......just waiting for cheque now...yes my new bank is in credit lol..
  • I'm pleased to say my husband received his cheque this morning (Spec Del) for £1617.17 from Natwest after we went to court on 6th Aug. I needed to phone Cobbetts as the didn't send it as per our out of court settlement. A big thank you to everyone who has helped, esp Martin ( who my DH seems to think is my new fancy man!!):money:
