  • Bank: HSBC
    Claim: £8900 (inc interest)
    Just received: £6500

Signed and returned offer forms a few days before 27th July (phew).
A call-centre lady told my wife early in July that we should visit our branch manager as they could now deal with cases directly.
Taking her strange advice we made an appointment, but when we turned up at our local branch, surprise surprise, the manager didn't know a thing about this. We angrily demanded something be done about this
miss-information. We provided them with the exact time and date of the phone conversation which was recorded. Within a short while we received our offer which was equivalent to all the charges minus the interest.
I can imagine the call-centre worker; and her supervisor who verified the information at the time getting a right royal rollicking - but ultimately it worked in our favour as I'm sure they speeded up our case because of this.
We are still waiting for £1100 from Lloyds but as we haven't had an offer from them as yet, we'll probably have to wait until sometime next year after the court ruling. I'm extremely confident that the ruling will be in favour of us; the little man in the street, who are the reason why these financial 'beasts' make billions of pounds profit every year.
    COME ON.........BRING 'EM ON !!!!!!
  • Bank: Lloyds TSB
    Amount Reclaimed: £770

    Amount they paid: £750
    The story:

Wrote to them, received "we think it's fair, go away" letter, then left it a few weeks. Wrote to them again after further charges added to my account, heard nothing at all back. Wrote a letter threatening court action, still heard nothing. Didn't make it to the court process as out of the blue got a settlement letter dated 10 days before the OFT cut off settlements saying "we still think it's fair to charge, but have your money back". :) Job done.

    Bank: HSBC
    Claim: £1450
    Received: £1220

Sent letter 1 in April and received a reply on the 39th day (of the 40 days allowed). The letter rcvd asked me to hold on whilst they reviewed my case.

I waited almost 4 weeks and then received an offer of £1220, my claim minus the interest.
I was asked to sign a statement to no further claims which I did and received the money in my account within 10 days.

I wasn't asked to close my account or pay back my overdraft...so win win. :T

  • Bank - Nationwide.Amt Claimed - £1600+Amt Paid - All of it!!It's taken me 2 mths to get round to posting this as I'm so usless on the computer, but believe me that's makes it even better, as it was such hard work for me! (useless I know!)They did take us right to the wire, even entering a defence so that we thought we were going to have to go all the way to court - I was dreading having to look up all the info I needed on this site!! - but before I even got the paperwork from the court we received a letter saying they had paid the full amount + £120 of fees yet to be added to our account!!! And they're not even closing our account, or cancelled our overdraft (YET!!) Though we do have to run it within the terms & conditions from now on!!! What no more going over our o/d limit?!We are so happy & now taking the kids on holiday courtesy of Nationwide!!It's well worth all the hours spent poring over the computer, if I can do it anyone can! I'm just glad we did it before this 'freeze' & want to wish anyone now claiming 'good luck'. It is worth sticking at it.
  • Hi there,

    Bank: Barclays Bank
    Amount Reclaimed: £3100 (£2500 plus £600 interest)

    Amount they paid: £2000
    The story:

I wrote to Barclays requesting a full refund for charges plus interest over the last 6 years which came to just over £3100. They wrote back within 8 weeks offering £2000 in full and final settlement. I've accepted as it is a 66% return on the orgininal request - but 80% on the total charges, so a good result from sending two letters (one to ask for bank statements, one to ask for money back!). Many thanks Martin for all the help with this!
