Bank: HSBC
Amount claimed: 150 joint account; 220 personal account
Refunded: 88 joint; 193 personal
Story:
just followed advice on this board, wanted to say many thanks. Tried not to get too impatient with late responses from HSBC or frustrated by their self imposed deadlines (when they didn't adhere to mine) or their trivialising my claim for "interest" - it is never in quotes when they charge it. But hey, they paid up, and we could not be bothered to challenge for more......0 -
Claim 11,145 inc Interest
Recieved 10,000 :T
Thought I stood no chance, was very sceptical, as dont have a good rapport with banks (always feel Im on the back foot due to bad credit record) Im almost grateful that they offer me basic services.:rotfl:
Anyway, followed the advice here, Letter 1 got charges and was staggered when added up, Letter 2 , got letter back within 3 days stating Id agreed to these charges so no way ..... Letter 3 heard nothing sent reminder heard nothing...couldnt afford court costs, so rang ombudsman for advice, got claim form from them, before completing had letter from halifax offering me £2000.00 ( I fainted I so needed this money...) but then got angry with myself for being such a wimp... rang the Halifax (very nervous) Lady really nice I waffled on about times being hard, and the stress this had put my family through...blah blah:o She said oh sorry we didnt realise, how about £10,000. I accepted there and then as this was an amount Id dreamed of but never thought woulld materialise.. This was on the 24th July on the 25th July £6000 was credited to the account, I then got jittery why such an odd amount...I wondered why no letter of confirmation, I heard the news and thought Id get no more, I rang yesterday 1st August and got told all claims on hold, no more payouts... I was gutted... So I rang Ombudsmen, they told me no thats not the case that this was settled prior to the 27th July, and that my call would of been recorded. So to ring the Halifax back.. Which I did, and then Low and behold apologies for misleading me( a bank apologising to me) :T and apparrantly money will be transfered in the next day or so....
So big XXX and thankyou to all you on this site that gave me the kick and the courage....Now I can pay some debts and stop stressing a bit.....:T
I really mean this please dont be nervous, but follow the advice of this site, I am so glad I did....Cheers all0 -
Bank : A&L
Amount Claimed : £4,050
Amount Paid : £4,050
A long and arduous journey starting way back in December last year. I was claiming for my SIL and wish I could say it's been "easy", but it hasn't! This bank really do take it to the limit, which was clearly demonstrated when SIL received a cheque by courier on the morning of her court hearing
I'm delighted she's now got her money, which has made it all worthwhile and I hope this forthcoming "test case" makes it much easier for claimants to receive their money sooner. The banks should not be allowed to put people through all this when they've got no intention of appearing in court and every intention of paying out to those who hold their nerve and "stick with it".
Take heart from this all you A&L claimers. On doing loads of reading on both here and the CAG site, I've not seen A&L/Wragge submit a "court bundle" yet, so you'll win by default.
Very many thanks to all those who have helped me along the way ... both on here and the CAG site ... I couldn't have done it without youThis has been one hell of a learning curve and I'll use the knowledge and experience I've gained to continue to help others out. In many ways, I'll miss the excitement and palpitations!!
Now Martin ... what can I claim for next
See you all around, I'm off to celebrate
Mimi xWins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Bank: HSBC
Amount Reclaimed:£425 for one account
£75 joint account
Amount they paid:£75 joint account
The story: Put in 2 reclaims for my bank accounts with HSBC, one being a joint account. Wrote the first letter asking them to pay back my money, then threatened to take them to court, they sent a letter back saying they were looking into my case(gave me reference number)and found out it would take them 8 weeks to look into the case. Sent my reclaim to the Financial Ombudsman. The FO sent a letter to the bank letting them know that I have contacted them. About 2 weeks later, bank sent letter back saying they were paying the£75 back. Though accepting no fault and maintaining the charges are lawful, but it will be less money to settle now, than let the claim go to court! Yipeee!
Its a start! Now waiting for my £425....Hold thumbs!:rotfl:0 -
We recieved the letter being sent out by Judge Besford from Hull County Court on the 25th July, two days later we recieved a letter from Lloyds Bank solicitors explaining that they were putting the full amount of claim back into our bank account!!!!!

Within minutes of logging into the bank and finding it, I ordered two new sofas that I've been drooling over for weeks and they'll be here next Thursday which, coincidentally, is the day before my next lot of charges are due to be paid in!!! :T :T :T
Gonna go and celebrate now with a cup of coffee - the kids think I'm mad jumping around the place shouting YIPEEEEEE!!!!!!!
Could not have done this without Martin's advice :money: and the support of everyone on the HSBC forum :A :A :A so a BIG THANK YOU to all!!!!!0 -

Bank: Barclays Bank plc.
Amount Reclaimed: £4,560 incl. interest
Amount they offered: £2,560
The story: My work colleague Sandra went through my bank statements of the last six years and used Martin's templates to claim them back.
I didn't have to pay for my bank statements as this is a free service from Barclays, they sent me my £10 cheque back with them.
End of April we sent the first letter to Barclays and about four weeks later I got a reply that they would look into it.
Last Friday, (on the day when the big banks went to court) I got an offer letter from Barclays which I accepted although it is £2,000 less than claimed but it is also £2,560 more than I expected (I thought they would reject my claim!) so hooray, thank you very much Martin. I can now pay a credit card off completely (and shred it!)0 -
Bank : Abbey
Amount Claimed : £651.27 inc interest
Amount Received : £720.00
Story:
I originally started reclaiming on 16th Aug 2006 for my daughter and 18th Aug 2006 for her partner. Abbey proved to be very stubborn and whilst other banks paid out easily they tended to make things as difficult as they could. My daughter's claim took 9 months to get bank statements to just start and at the moment a claim of £868.84 inc interest is stuck in the waiver having not got as far as the final deadlock letter from the bank. Meanwhile, her partner's story was more succesful and even though I started his claim later it has been resolved and Abbey paid out £100 initially before giving us the deadlock letter to take the matter to the FSA. We have just received notification from the FSA that settlement has been agreed by Abbey on a further £620.00, making a total of £720.00 paid out - more than we requested ! Luckily just prior to the announcement of the forthcoming court case and immediate waiver of claims. Have just got to keep fingers crossed that outcome of case will be successful for my daughter.
One would question though - could those not succesful, if case goes in favor of Banks, claim unfair discrimination ???0
