Mr Helpfull thank God you're posting on here! I've found your posts so very helpfull and informative
All this time, there was I thinking I was putting on weight because of the vast amounts of sweets and chocolate I'd been eating, and then I find it's not that at all, it's the bloody low fat yogurt that I've had once a day  If only I'd have known earlier :T Please please empart more of your wisdom on us all.
I know it may have sounded like others on here were thinking you were an interfering idiot who had nothing better to do with your time than wind up people who were happily minding their own business on a support thread full of others who just wanted to help, but no, we're all really grateful for your impressive knowledge on the perrils of artificial sweeteners.
Do go on....
50 yrs ago people ate more fats and less sugar and way way kless sweeteners. yet were not as fat as today.
We need vitamins. I guess some of you at least know that but vitamins ADEK are fat solluble
Aspartame is highly toxic especially when heated.
There are 2 essential fatty acids. how do you get these if you eat low fat foods?
You may have been eating loads of sweets and chocolate. there is a lot of sucrose in these and sucrose is one molecule fructose and one glucose. fructose that lovely fruit sugar is mainly metabolised to fat. it does not trigger a leptin response so the body in effect doesnt even register it. You lovely muller light has nearly as much sugar as full fat coke weight for weight.
If your body doesnt get all the essential nutrients it needs it may well lose weight for a time because it is in starvation mode and as we know from WW2 if people are starved they do lose weight but we are not in WW2 and you are starving yourself knowing food is out there which means it will gradually get more difficult because the brain will slow down metabolism and store calories. Unconsciously you will end up in a battle with your mind that you will most likely lose and hence the Yo Yo effect we see so often with diets.
To put it bluntly and rather harshly you are fat because your brain sees a need for you to be fat. It is a form of protection mechanism even though it might really be putting your health at risk. It may be putting a barrier between you and something outside (a form of comfort eating. It may be because it sees itself as being starved of something (not always food)
However if you dont sort out the psychological side you really are onto a loser which is not nice because I know from all the vitreol here you think you are on the right track. You may be in some cases but if you have trouble with yo yoing then Im afraid you have to look inward first.
Now Im guessing there will be the usual head in sand responses but if you genuinely want to lose weigh and stay healthy as well then you have to look a bit deeper than one of the Uks best dietary money spinners. I dont say its all bad but some bits are and I think it is fair to highlight them as long as one can back it up.I like to give people as many choices as possible to do what I want them to. A totally one sided narrow-minded argument! 50 years ago people moved more - they walked everywhere - work, shops, schools etc, did much more paid manual work & more more manual housework! There was little processed food (aspartame included or not) & actually there was les 'fat' around in such a more natural diet than there is today.
I consume no aspartame, either before I was fat, nor now I am (think paleo diet) - so now what's your argument?!0 -

Have you noticed flora doesnt claim to reduce cholesterol more than butter? the adverts only say it reduces cholesterol but not how much. There is a reson for that.
Now yes there was less processed food but most processed food has had fat reduced and sugar added plus a whole host of other toxins. while we are on the subject of sweeteners have you ever noticed things like maltodextrin or dextrose on the ingredients list? I will let you google them if you dont know what they are, then you can try and work out how labelling allows people to put low or Zero calorie on the label.
I notice also that you have not really manged to put up any real debate. Presumably you pay for Slimming World the least you could expect is good advice instead of a bunch of mostly meaningless syns
A good diet is a ballanced one that provides all the nutrients your body needs. Starvation diets do not do that and calories are not everything because you have no idea how many or even what sort of calories you body is actually absorbing. eat a high fibre diet and quite a bit of the sugars and fats will go in one end and out the other. Some calories take more energy for the body to use than others.I like to give people as many choices as possible to do what I want them to. (Milton H Erickson I think)0 -
I now save myself the fiver and weigh at the gym. I am finding, with the info and support here that is enough for me ( at least at the moment ).
I think I will end up doing the same as I have the info and I can ill afford to spend £5 a week. In fact my OH suggested I use the money to pay for an exercise class to help support my weight loss.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

Swiper, don't let a brief fall off the wagon put you off. Guilt can be very persuasive and damaging.I have had a couple of naughty days, but I just keep telling myself that I can get straight back on plan anytime- I don't have to wait until next morning! Once I think like that I don't feel guilty or desperate but just excited to get back on plan.
Take each day at a time and keep posting here so we can support you! Keep telling yourself that 'nothing tastes so good as slim feels'! Find something to do with your hands, start a project like organising or cleaning, take a walk, do something / anything to distract you from eating! You CAN do it!
Rummer, good luck on your new journey! I am only a few weeks into this myself, but this group has been so helpful. I only went to a couple of meetings - the consultant refused to weigh me on my third visit as I was a little late ( she never explained the times to me and my first two meetings, weighing went on far later than the time I arrived and was refused.)she drive me crazy anyway and the meetings dragged on for over two hours - who has time for that?! I am glad I went however as I had never tried EE and needed the books.
I now save myself the fiver and weigh at the gym. I am finding, with the info and support here that is enough for me ( at least at the moment ). By my scales today I am 9.5lbs down, even though I am unable to eat as much SF as I would like ( have no colon).
Have a great weekend everyone!
Thanks Suzie, I know it's down to me in the end. WI at home this morning and it's no where near as bad as I thought, the numbers on the sig remain true - phew. Considering I am only 7lb outside my target, it's nothing really, the point is I feel those 7lb.
I believe every body has an optimum weight, thats not to say "skinny weight" or "Dress size" just somewhere you feel "right" - I don't feel right right now.any room on the wagon for a fat green one again?
Evening people,
I've been a really greedy pig. I've put on at least 100 stone, well, maybe slightly less than that, but it will be a lot. Can't bring myself to weigh. Possibly I'd break the scales any way
It's going to be day 1 on Monday. Myself and Tadpole 2 are going to be really really good all of the Summer Holidays as we're off school for 6 weeks!!
Our plan is ~
1. Stop stuffing and eat properly
2. Long dog walk every day
3. Bike ride every day around the block (2.5 miles) once in week one, twice in week 2 etc etc building up to six times round in week 6 _pale_
Also going to do a HUGE house clean up, drink lots of water etc. Stop spending, start paying off credit card. Got so many plans and I'nm going to stick to it!
I've put on so much weight that I can't get into any clothes. Iam wearing a big fleece to cover up. SO it's safe to say I'm a little hot. Why do I get myself in such a state?
I'm still bingeing at the moment. I'd eaten a whole Toblerone before 8am this morningbut it was rather nice
I'll get it together. Last day tomorrow. New start on Monday. Will post daily to keep me on track if I may.
Great to read everyone's news. Lovely to see some familiar faces
Hello Frogga. You do beat yourself up don't you. I like your plan for the summer. Sounds very much like mine and dd2's aim.
:DAIM being the key.
I find that all the measures of "out of sight out of mind" have wiggled away from me, so the snack foods are hidden and the crap is on view. Unhelpful.0 -
Hi Swiper
I do yes, it's my trademark
I'm thinking of weighing tomorrow to assess the damage, but I don't know if I dare....

I did that this morning with the mental attitude of "This is as high as it gets"
wrote it down in the book and everything ... most organised i'll get all day.
Using myfitnesspal to keep my food diary on, as I don't get access to the SW stuff any more.I think that was the most helpful thing for me ...their online stuff, quick and easy to load in the foods and keep track.

I may have a peek tomorrow but it's going to be bad
At my heaviest when I started SW I was 20st 1lb. I've got down to just over 13 st, but I think I'll be pushing 15 st again now, easily, could be more.
I guess at least it wont be 20st 1lb again. Yet...Say it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D
