fozziebeartoo: i tried the muller light toffee one but i just couldn't eat it so guess i will have to stick to just fruit. i found the flavor and texture just yucky lol

skintcatt: i hope your back feels better, i can imagine its hard to take it easy with a young'un and in this heat it don't help, maybe a warm bath might help?

i been a busy bee today so not ate much but am using up syns on pure orange juice i mixed with diet lemonade, i did enjoy some Linda McCarthy red onion and rosemary sausages with some SW chips, might have to make some SW crisps if i can cut them thin enough but will leave that for tomorrow

oooh never thought about making crisps - am guessing it same sort of process just cutting potatoes REALLY thinly? Would they still be free tho?

  • Hi all,

I've been getting myself in a bit of a stew, and thought I'd come on here and ask your collective advice.

This is as you know my first proper week, and I want to stick to plan 100%. But... this weekend I will be indulging in my hobby of reenactment, and I'm a bit stuck with what to do about food.

Lunch is a buffet affair of historically appropriate foods, I'll list what below:

Bread -small round bakery loaves, white and spelt usually
Cheese - cheddar, wensleydale, cheshire, soft cheese
    Ham
    Chicken breast chunks
    Scotch pancakes
    yoghurt (sometimes; full fat)
    raisins
almonds / hazelnut / pine nuts
    sometimes there are berries
    carrots
    apples
other fruit and veg as is in season

We cook our evening meal authentically during the afternoon for the public to see. I have no idea what this will be, but stews and sausages are not uncommon. I'm staying in a B&B overnight, and they've already agreed to grill my breakfast, so I'm not too worried there (lean bacon, mushroom, beans, tomato - should be fine). Drinks are either water, diet coke (hidden in a jug, but ick) or apple juice which is high in syns given the kind of volumes I'll need in this weather.

What choices would be best from the lunch buffet? I was thinking I could take my own w/meal rolls and keep them out of sight until lunch. Then one would be a HEB and I could have a bit of cheese as HEA, some ham, and then go to town on the apples and any salady veg they bring?

Should I risk the collective evening meal or take something homemade and be anti-social?

    PGxx

you could flexi-syn some of it?
The chicken & veg & fruit would all be ok, but maybe have some bits and bobs as handy standbys just in case it isn't suitable?

SW crisps need to be synned as they are considered to be a food abuse because it is easy to overeat them, although I believe some people do still eat them as free.

    Taken directly from SW website

Are couscous cake, Smash pizzas and lasagne-sheet ‘Doritos’ Free?

You might be disappointed to hear that they’re not. Because changing the use of a food can make it easier to over-eat, to protect your weight loss they become Synned.
When foods like pasta, rice and grains are used in their original form they’re low in energy density (calories), bulky, appetite-satisfying foods. Pasta, couscous and rice are usually the main ingredient in a meal packed with other Free Foods – giving it sufficient bulk to be satisfying as a meal in itself. However, when ground down, used as flour (like in couscous cake), used as a sauce thickener (like Smash), seasoned crisps (like Doritos) or pur!ed (like smoothies) they’re often used as additions to a main meal… and on top of your day’s Syns. It is a very effective way of adding a lot of extra calories in a non-bulky way, and as such would then be counted as Syns.

This applies to homemade crisps made out of potatoes aswell - if you think about it - baked crisps are still syns - so homemade baked crisps would be aswell

Morning all, still lurking and reading on although not contributing.
Another 1.5lb loss this week and really feeling like my body has found its loss mojo again now after around 3 months of sts.

For those who are new i strongly recommend keeping food diaries even if it is only writing down what you have eaten in a day without seperating into all the catagories i find it helps me stay on track.

As for whoever asked about the new Hifi bars we were told in group last night they are not allowed to sell them till next week but could offer them as raffle prizes to get people interested in them.

Oh I think you tried the worse kind of yogurt! I find the muller lights really watery and not that nice. The only one I get is vanilla and that is to pour over fruit.
Maybe try another brand and see if you like that any better?

    Yes, I agree.

Muller Lights are definitely my least fave too!

But Muller Light GREEK STYLE are my absolute favourites and BOGOF in Waitrose......but my local doesnt stock the cherry

    Cherry is lush!! :D

Btw when I make magic porridge (which is most days) the greek style need a bit of extra liquid to get a nice texture, so I add a blob of ff natural yog or grate an apple in......or both.

    :hello:

Totally agree about the food diary. I found a good idea is to have columns for free, suprefree, HEX, syns etc than I can see immediately if the SFs are too low or the syns too high.

Although I've been at target for virtually two years I still return to that if I'm starting to get lazy.

I think the best advice I could give would be start the week doing a meal planner and associated shopping list and then do a diary through the week to track your progress and make sure you don't 'cheat'.
