Yes, we really need some strategies so we don't undo all the hard work we're going to do with our Christmas Pudding Challenge. I think I will eat a reasonable but not pigged-out Christmas dinner, and avoid all the stupid stuff that I would never eat normally - why do I think it doesn't count if it's Christmas??

I love to make a Christmas cake at half term and spend the next six weeks feeding it rum (it's a Caribbean fruit cake, oooh, ecstasy, gorgeous) but no-one else in the house eats it. What is the point? I know I'll be shovelling all down if I make one but I just love the ritual. No, I couldn't make it and give it away, it's always a bit higgledy, I would be ashamed. And I'd have to have cut a small piece out for myself, wouldn't I?

I've used the same recipe I always use & made 2 smaller cakes in loaf tins this year - one for us & one for my parents or FIL, or SIL or whoever'll have it! I don't care it'll look 'homemade or a bit rough around the edges', it'll just be a nice gesture. Everyone finds an 8" cake a bit much anyway! And it'll stop me eating the lot - whcih I've pretty much done before (after 2 or three people have had a 'taste'!)
Fair play Frogga, I've started the Xmas 'treats' shopping, but they have to go into the loft where they're not easily accessible to me otherwise I'd eat them & then buy again (and again & again & again some years - no kidding! :o )

You're not weak! And a few rainbow drops don't have any calories ;) This is why SW changed to flexi days! Maybe you're being too strict on yourself - are you trying to cut out all syns every day? Then you feel deprived! Just cut down by 3/4 every day & you can still have a 'treat' plus they all add up in addition to your 15 ont he day.

Hi all really sorry it's been mental and have not been on but reading bits in between really stressful day went into London to see ladykillers we had booked them ages ago and was just past surbiton on the train when there was a fatality at wimbledon guess whose name tickets were in and at box office aargh

Anyway we took a real gamble took train backwards to Woking and pure luck it was on the line moving a train to London had organised that tickets could be picked up by other pals and 2 left for us only missed 25 mins oh the drama :-)

Anyway went to zizzis had steak salad and skinny latte at train station on way home so not bad day

Shalamoo really sorry re work hope it improves
Happy birthday mrs Ryan 33 years young I'm jealous :-)

Tie really sorry re your mum fingers crossed we are all thinking of her

Mildredd stick with it don't beat yourself up when not been brilliant you will be fine just do what you can

Frogga I was reading your post this morning and nodding and thinking been there bought the tee shirt too as no doubt loads of others did

I have bought loads of Terry's chocolate oranges at 99p there is no way in hell they will be there by Christmas I'll have to get OH to hide them

One of the things I was thinking was look how well challenge is going for you so much re food is habit forming and breaking daft example I have broken the habit of my 2 mcflurries every night on the way home now it does not enter my head

I think and it's only a suggestion that if we focus on here and now and the six week challenge and the christmas pud challenge that by then lots of good habits will have formed and some bad ones will be broken

I'm probably explaining it really badly here sorry ok comparison I went on a cruise for a week some of you may remember the list of food before I left port but compared to other years while I ate loads and really good food and lots of desserts I didn't put on as I did not eat the amount of pure junk I normally do and it was totally unconscious it was not intentional

I think you will be surprised look how fabulously you are doing at moment if you think re how well you can do and keep at it for next 6 weeks after this well you may find that the proportion of good food to junk you have is naturally higher than in other years as you will ave formed good habits

Also don't worry re all good work keep going one day at a time and if you have blowout at christmas which no doubt we all will I bet it will be more contained than previously x

I really do know how to make a short story longer :-) and by the way if that earlier stuff sounded sanctimonious then it was not meant to but it's how I'm trying to think in my head before christmas xxxxxx

Right, finally got up the courage to post something!

I have been reading this thread for the last 3 weeks or so whilst I've been getting myself back on the SW wagon. I originally started in Feb last year and by Nov had lost just under 4 stone. I then started working full time and everything went out the window as I find one of the keys to SW is masses of planning eg always having something to hand to snack on or having quick and easy meals.

I found that I just didn't have enough time to cook enough SW friendly food and my carp food (eg chocolate and takeaways) went up. Then it got to xmas and I never really got back on the wagon and its taken me til now to get my head in the right place to start properly again. For a couple of weeks I was thinking about starting again but would still put a huge bar of chocolate in the shopping trolley, which I think goes to prove that my head wasn't in it, and since starting I haven't had any chocolate :T

I have managed to put on most but not all of the weight that I lost and after the 5lbs that I have lost these last two weeks i'm still a stone light than when I started before, so have only put back on 3 out of the 4 stone I lost, so at least i'm not completely back to square one.

I have really enjoyed reading the thread and you've all been doing so well with the challenge. I've seen a few people from when I was on here before eg Flat Eric and Take It Easy, and there is a few people that don't seem to be here anymore eg Dizzy and Mrs McGawber (sp?).

But if you'll have me back I would love to start contributing again and see if I can stay on the straight and narrow, hopefully having you guys to be 'accountable' to might help me to be good.

Sorry for the long post, having been wanting to post for the last couple of weeks but never got round to it :D

  • Hi cande
I think we are all worried about christmas coming up but I genuinely think that if we really focus on the here and now so sY October November and say 2 weeks in December that so much good work will de done before then that it will make a big difference and bearing in mind we have a good ten weeks to do some real good before then or look at it another way

If we were not going to be good between now and then and just ate our usual non SW way and then the usual christmAs way we would end off way worse off than if we ate SW way in the build up does that make sense

I think I'm losing ability to write coherently and no am not drinking ;-)

I really believe if we work hard over the next eight to ten weeks that our heads will be in slightly different place by Christmas but we can't surrender this early it's fighting talk we need :-)
