It was actually nearer £11.5k. And as this was Aberdeenshire then all the registered keepers could have just ignored the bog paper anyway. :)

Also interesting to note this from the article:
This meant around 136 paid parking charge notices worth around £5,500 were refunded and 150 outstanding notices worth £5,940 were cancelled.

Is that another way of them saying that around half are being ignored?

    :D
  • Quick update from me...and bump for this thread.

Today my letter to Lancaster Council's leader about the Aldi/ParkingEye situation in Carnforth will be going in the post.:D

Interestingly, there is a new thread on pepipoo, titled 'Official - its OK to commit crime', about DVLA/the BPA possibly taking action against PE if they continue to fail to seek planning permission for their camera systems...
  • I wonder at what stage the parking enforcers are allowed to start rattling the tin? I can't see any supermarket where the planning applications mention anything beyond they will provide parking. After completion the highwaymen move in. Down the road from me is a shopping centre that has Sainsbury's, sundry shops and stores but if you park you HAVE to spend minimum £10 (not including tobacco) in Sainsbury's to get the parking fee refunded. Doesn't matter how much you spend in the other shops/ Cost is £4 an hour otherwise.

Some more good publicity for Aldi and Parking Eye:-

The Aldi customer fell foul of PE's "no return with 4 hours" rule.

And you just wonder why such a 'no return' policy is in place?

Plus the question of when two motorists have access to the same car and the second one (unbeknown to the first) returns within that time limit.

If you read the article carefully they didn't initially accuse him of returning within four hours, it was a classic double-dip: they accused him of an overstay. He's then brought up the returned-within-4-hours thing and they've clearly pounced on it.

I've never heard of them initiating a fake fine under the no-return policy, doubtless for the reason given by trisontana.

Equally we haven't heard of any court cases involving Aldi customers. I wonder if there is a "do not send any of our customers to court" secret clause in the contract? There certainly was between Somerfield and PE.

I've suspected this from some time now. Seems there's never been one Aldi-related court case (reported here, Pepipoo or CAG) since I started this thread, when one of mine got a PE LBA in June 2013.

Hopefully the cost to PE of me getting involved in fighting PPCs has more than outweighed the 70 quid they tried to grasp by slapping a PCN on one of mine! Bad move PE. :)
