Yet another Aldi ex-customer:-
Personally, I cannot see why anyone needs to spend 90 minutes in Aldi. Does anyone here
1) shop in Aldi
2) need 90 minutes?
You probably need more that 90 minutes, because the odd time I have been in one there are usually only one or two tills open, long queues and when you finally get to the till there is an area about a foot square that all you have bought piles up and you end up feeling like you are doing double and drop and expecting Leslie Crowther to be there when you turn round.0 -
You should try Two Saints Ormskirk.

What a grim bunch of shops. You can spend the best part of an hour just hanging around in Argos while the spotty oiks in the warehouse try to find whatever piece of junk it was you ordered!Je suis Charlie.0 -
Even worse are the ones with several stores and a cafe/restaurant as well, where somehow people are expected to have lunch and do all their shopping in more than one store, and be out within 2 hours. Like Mr Beavis had to, after it was originally 3 hours and was changed (allegedly) by PE.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

After escalating to the Head of the Council this letter finally arrived while I was on hols.
My original letter:Dear Sir
Re. 13/00217/FUL & 14/00443/VCN, Aldi Foodstore, Scotland Road, Carnforth
I am writing regarding the above development and wish to raise the following concerns.
In the Decision Notice of 2nd June 2014 condition 7 stated:
“The development hereby approved shall not be occupied or brought into use until a Car Park Management Strategy has been submitted to, and approved in writing by, the Local Planning Authority. The Strategy shall comprise the maximum duration of stay and enforcement procedures, which shall replicate the restrictions on the adjacent town centre car park (with the exception of the staff car parking spaces to the rear of the store). The car park shall only be operated in full accordance with the approved scheme.
Reason: To allow for the effective and efficient use of the parking areas.”
Having visited this development it is clear that the car park operation does not replicate the parking restrictions at the adjacent Booths car park, contrary to the Decision Notice of 2nd June 2014. It differs as follows (photographs provided in the attached annexe):- Signage states the car park is for store customers only.
- Signage states that there is a 1 ½ hour time limit at the store.
- Signage states that no return is permitted with 4 hours.
- Signage infers that parking enforcement operates 7 days per week.
- Signage states that there is a £70 ‘parking charge’ for failing to comply with the displayed terms and conditions.
- The signage is located very high up the car park lighting columns, rather than at eye level, with illegible terms and conditions in very small print.
- The car park is not operated on a not-for-profit basis with all profits going to a locally nominated charity.
- Aldi’s parking contractor, ParkingEye, utilises an ANPR camera system to monitor parking stays.
Please can you therefore respond to the following:- Was the Car Park Management Strategy ever submitted to the Local Planning Authority?
- Has the Local Planning Authority approved in writing the Car Park Management Strategy?
- Are copies of the above available to view?
- If the Car Park Management Strategy was not submitted, what does the Local Planning Authority intend to do about this?
A second concern is as follows:
In the Decision Notice of 2nd June 2014 condition 2 stated:
“The development hereby permitted shall be carried out in accordance with the following approved plans:
- Proposed site plan:0690-MID-400 Rev T
- Proposed elevations: 1579-151
- Proposed site sections: 1579-152
Reason: To ensure a satisfactory standard of development.”
I can find no reference to either the provision of car park lighting columns or the siting of a column for an ANPR camera monitoring system being detailed in any of the site planning application documents.
Please can you therefore respond to the following:- Has the applicant ever submitted a planning application and site plan (amended or otherwise) to show the siting of car park lighting and ANPR camera columns?
- Has the Local Planning Authority approved in writing the siting of car park lighting and ANPR camera columns?
- Are copies of the above available to view?
- If a planning application (amended or otherwise) for these changes was not submitted, what does the Local Planning Authority intend to do about this?
I look forward to receiving your full and considered reply within the next 21 days.
Yours sincerely...
And here is the longer reply...
I would be interested to know if this is worth pursuing further- obviously I want to raise the ParkingEye advertising consent issue now.0 -
well they said 2 hrs on the planning application , and once granted dropped it to 1.5 hrs ,
I shall ask our planning officer to see if this has been implemented
NO , just tell him to park up for 1hr and 59 minutes , you will get your answer in the post!0 -
Just wandered onto the "Visitors" ALDI facebook page, still lot's of disgruntled customers who have fallen foul of Parking Eye.
I got stopped from commenting quite a while ago, so I just used to share the experiences of their customers.
Seems like I've now been stopped from "sharing."Illegitimi non carborundum:)0 -
Meanwhile on the parking prankster blog we have this:
http://parking-prankster.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/parkingeye-subject-to-data-protection.html
As Parking eye are agents of ALDI, and plenty of 'double dips' happen at ALDI sites, cant the Aldi staff ( managers etc) be held liable in some way? From the Plain Language Commission:

Has anyone yet seen PE issue court papers on an Aldi transgressor?
In the absence of any evidence, it seems pretty clear that Aldi has stopped short of allowing PE to drag their customers through the courts - something that PE is not used to and must be pretty frustrated at having their litigious yearnings [STRIKE]castrated[/STRIKE] frustrated.
It's almost at the stage of recommending that PE/Aldi PCNs can be ignored - with the only likely outcome being tiresome debt collectors' junk. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
