Here's an interesting read (referenced via PePiPoo - thanks emanresu). Aldi/PE still flouting planning permissions.

Oops, sorry Guv - just an error!

Interestingly this is what the council have asked:
“The car park should be operating in accordance with the obligations in the planning agreement which require provision for short stay car parking for visitors to the town centre. In the spirit of goodwill we would hope that the store would reimburse any individuals who have been inappropriately issued with a ticket.”

A golden opportunity for Aldi to demonstrate their 'spirit of goodwill' especially as we enter the season of goodwill. :)

Re the Dunstable situation. A couple of weeks ago there was a "lively discussions" on the FB page with one of Aldi's groupies who insisted that the store and PE were not breaking any planning conditions. Glad she's been proved wrong.

Fat chance, They won't tell anybody, they will have to claim(just like councils really)

They should put a poster up in the store just like they do when there is a recall on a product.

Well, the two new entries above (Snowman and Dunstable) have just been removed from the FB page - worse than any Communist state's censorship.

This charge they put back on the manufacturer, very slim chance of getting anything out PE.

Regarding the "£30 minimum spend" letter, Aldi have just replied thus:-

"Hi all. thanks for commenting. The letter posted details an outdated process that is no longer in use, and we believe was sent to the customer some time ago. We no longer ask that customers provide receipts detailing a minimum spend".

But according to the PePiPoo thread the OP was handed that letter by somebody in the store when the went into complain in late November. So this store at least is handing out misleading and out-of-date information.

  • The full text of the newspaper article has been put back up, along with the important bit about refunding. The clocks running.

think it just goes to show that nobody is checking that the contracts have legal standing when they are signed, proving that we have a case when we tell members here that there may be no contract in place, or no contract enforceable under law, thet the PPC think they can just put pro forma signs up saying whatever they like as they have not checked its legal standing when it comes to the wording

it wont be just this car park or shop or town either !!

some of the recent cases like "b+m and tescos" etc prove that a lot of the time these claims and charges are based on falsehoods and assumptions

all they really need to do is agree common practice that is fair to all, instead of hitting legitimate shoppers going about their lawful business , wherever that may be (and not necessarily in store-as can be seen here)
  • What I'm not sure about is in a case like this, would the PE charge be legally looked at as an Ooop's or illegal charge.
