I haven't worked there in years, it's been quite some time, in fact I worked through the change from one2one to the awful pink of T-Mobile to put the time into perspective ;).

All my links are definitely live on the current Orange pages.

one2one rocked, the germans destroyed what became T-Mobile, and then the bomb exploded and France Telecom had to save it, EE was born and hopefully they can get their act together and become like a Porsche like VoltsWagen did.

LIVE webpages or not its not the links I posted for Geoff and his data on Orange conundrum ;) Foillow my links, not google's :)

Orange has always had a terrible out of date website in parts - its what happens when you outsource Wirefree on 439 ;) Yup WIREFREE that's going back to one2one days too ;)

I have just returned from my local Carphone warehouse with my £60 still burning a hole in my pocket:(
Went through all of the sales patter for the Y300 and was ready to buy when the sales person said the mobile internet was permanently on and could not be switched off. This was a no no for me so aborted the sale, for the same reason as geoff stated, perhaps when we get a new Ovivo SIM card that would change.
However when I got home I downloaded the manual and thought it stated that in fact the mobile internet could be disabled and Geoff above has confirmed that, correct?

Also the SA said she thought Huawei did not come unlocked and would be locked to the first SIM card inserted, please someone tell me that is not correct.
I would love one of these phones.

I'm quite staggered at the hopelessness of that salesperson, though every company has a few. Even more disappointing that it was a woman.

Depending on your annoyance/time/energy put in to get to that store, I would complain about her: NO smartphone locks you into 24/7 mobile data, and that should be basic knowledge for anyone on the sales floor.

As for the SIM being "locked to the phone it's inserted to", that's just nonsense. You'll be able to use any SIM you wish in the Y300, and use the SIM in another phone, if you want to.

I have spoken to CPW/Phones4U salespeople off the cuff, and many WILL admit their phones are unlocked if pressed, just depends who you talk to.
Thanks loulou, yes I tried to make my post non sexist, but could not resist letting it slip.:rotfl:
A trip back to the warehouse is on the cards.

Many thanks to diamonds for the helpful advice (sorry it seemed to spark off a spat with d123).

@notbritishgas - I can assure you that ALL the mobile data services on the Y300, including GPS, can be switched off via the notification panel. This is why, since turning them off, I haven't spent another penny of my allowance (I know, I'm a real skinflint!).

@diamonds - The Y300 sim was a new one. Not worried about the one in the Nokia as, even if the OH upgraded, she wouldn't be needing 3G. Agree with you about the useless Orange website. I wanted to change the (incorrect) address on my account but the stupid site insists I can only do that if I register the phone and then it will force me to change to another animal plan other than Racoon. Also tried to link the old Nokia Orange number to the new account but, although it seemed to process without error, there is no sign of the number on my account.

3rd party companies eh ? You think executive office at Orange/EE would sort it out given its the OFFICIAL online outlet. I used to email them errors and it took months for changes, and others did not get done??.

No worries about d123 they were not following my links but a search engines I assume, only EVER apologise for your own reasons in life ;)

Let us know how you go with a new sim/network/price plan for your usage, it may well help another minimal user jumping on to the smartphone bandwagon :)

As for the Orange website, passing a EE store pop in and explain the website issues and ask them to assist on a call to technical support as its *free* to you from their handsets and I have noticed relaying things several times via a EE staff member seems to get the person on the phone to *BOTHER* more than a customer direct on a call as you have gone out your way to go instore - UK customer service ? Only usually when you go out your way to enforce it ;) :rotfl:

Good idea, I'll give that a try next time I'm passing an EE store. Thanks.
