many thanks OP. Picked one up in store yesterday as the cpw site wouldn't recognise my sim check code online. I have to say for £59.95 I am very happy :)

The small amount of space left for apps did concern me as I like to have games on hand to entertain the small people but changing the storage settings from internal to SD card has meant that I can move the majority of new apps to the SD card. The ones that came preloaded, chrome etc, will not move with this method.

Reading online the 512mb ram seems to be worrying a lot of people but for £60 I can't complain at the moment. Afterall, I think its double the ram of my old xperia x8 and that was still working for me :D (yes I know it was an older version of android)

All I've got to do now is order my ovivo sim and that's me £11 a month better off :)

Ovivo is great, I have been using for nearly a year with no problems.

I read on HUKD earlier (Sunday) that there was some sort of IT problems at CPW and they said that was affecting the PAYG Upgrade Checker online, don't know if it's been resolved now.

    Glad you like it :)

I also added additional information about the XDA Developers Rooting link in a post from a few days ago.

Personally, I couldn't comment on that as my mum has a G300 but I don't have the Y300 (yet); though someone on HUKD asked the very same thing earlier.

blaster replied: "y300 is a better phone than the g300, its quicker it as 4.1 on it, case is more solid built , it as same camera's it as same memory size, which was never a problem for me and my g300, only thing i dont like is the huawei ui on the y300, but as others say just install apex or another launcher from play store if you prefer.
Seeing as a new g300 is £120* and this y300 for some like myself can be got for £60 ,how on earth can anyone complain is beyond me, this is a nice mid range phone for a very budget cost."

osstis said: "it has dual-core, official Android JB 4.1, better battery life and very good sound from speaker and loudspeaker too and very nice rubber body."

*I wouldn't agree with that, as the G300 can be bought for around £65 now, but the Y300 is currently on Argos for £129.99: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Search/searchTerms/Y300.htm

Even the Huawei Vision U8580 is considered to be slightly better than the G300 now (can be bought for £39.99 PAYG upgrade, screen is a little smaller at 3.7" though): http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/39-95-payg-12-months-free-wifi-huawei-vision-u8850-3-7-screen-1-ghz-scorpion-cpu-1568962

PS: From rev6 at HUKD (solely about the Y300): "I am still shocked of how good the build quality is for the price. The entire back and sides are a rubberised plastic, gives it a premium type feel, unlike glossy type plastic, not going to state which one I'm referring to, Samsung, not much creaking either.
The battery is a 1900mah or so which is incredible for the specs. A 4 inch screen with this size battery is really great.
Rear speaker, to me, is great. I've put it back facing down on a surface but the sound doesn't seem to alter, not sure why.
Not tested the headphone port so can't comment. Games load fine like CSR Racing, Osmos.

Cons, well, the RAM. Opening anything like the Play Store will instantly close a browser, I've done tweaks and stuff to prevent it, but to no avail. Phone can get a bit hot in use, but all do. Screen is good, doesn't appear to be IPS considering the viewing angles, but the screen quality is rather good. The only really thing that gets on my nerves apart from the RAM is the menu button, it should be at the opposite side, so the back button is easily accessible with your thumb.

    Overall, at £60, a steal."

mb1 says: "Fantastic phone. Very happy. In some ways, it's better than my Samsung S2. The pre-installed bloat software is actually very good too. I particularly like Nokia style 'Profiles' app, DLNA and Themes. The weather app is also better than the stock Samsung. It even plays a rain shower sound!

The pre-installed sounds for notifications are way better than other Android handsets I've messed about with. Car alarm chip-chip, 8-Bit video game, champagne cork popping, etc."

whw leaves a more thorough viewpoint of the phone here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/huawei-ascend-y300-released-6th-june-carphone-warehouse-59-95-payg-upgrade-possible-1572075?page=49#post18259005

Here's a couple of comparisons between the G300 and Y300:

The Y300 has been confirmed numerous times as having a 1950mAH battery.

Just to say that I get "Bad Gateway" when I try the online SIM checker for the PAYG Upgrade price (might be because the Y300 is on Back Order).

Also, I tried to get one in-store earlier but I was told the Y300 has flew off the shelves. They may get a delivery this week, but don't know for sure. None in Glasgow anywhere.

I ordered one via the upgrade checker last Friday. I didn't see bad gateway but I did have to request a code 4 times (on the same SIM) until I got one that worked.

I am really not surprised. At 59.99 or 69.99 they are extremely well priced.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I've ordered one on a talk mobile contract from CPW.

Ovivo was going to end up costing me actual money as I'll go over the text limits, so figured I may as well get a free handset on a £7.70pm contract. £36 cashback too. Best deal for me.

CPW said I should have my phone by 25th June. Hope they get a delivery soon!

Bought one as well. I am just hoping I can get it unlocked from the O2 network and use it on the tesco network(even though tesco is run by O2).
    Thank you for posting.
