hang on - OPs birthday isn't until next week - her OH could just be winding her up that he spent the money...........she wont know until her actual birthday will she?

I suppose some people might be pleased if their OH eventually came through with something nice on the birthday. Personally I would find the upset he's caused now very difficult to get past.

but unless the OP KNOWS he has blown the £150 she cant know how it was spent. Unless she does the upset is in her mind.
I could blow £150 down the rugby club in one evening - £100 deposit for the hire of the hall and Disco. and that doesn't include a drink!

Untill your birthday I would give him the benefit of the doubt that he's really just kidding and has something special for you.

Is he usually spiteful though? Is this out of character? £150 at a pub sounds unlikely to me. Say £3 a pint, even 10 pints would only be around £30.
    1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
    10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
    50p: Christmas presents £3.50
    £2: holidays £2.00

To be honest, theres a lot to be said for just sitting and waiting to see what someone has bought you, with no fuss, no prompting.

Unless, you havent a clue what to get someone, for example my brother works, he doesnt need a lot of stuff so when I get him birthday and christmas presents I generally ask him what he would like.

The rest of the people in my life, I buy them something I think they would appreciate and just get on with it.

I dont even know how long the OP and her partner have been together, whether theyve been together through several birthdays, when you get to know someone well you tend to know the way they buy presents.

And I think sometimes women can expect more of a fuss made over them, men are like whatever.

Its really not worth days of upset over no matter what hes done.

Hes either going to buy something else or he isnt and what happens next week might make the OPs mind up about where they go from here.

There is a great deal that I just don't 'get' about this thread.

Right now, this one is at the top of the list:

    - the OP's boyfriend is hopeless with money
    - so hopeless that the OP has to control the BF's current account
    - the BF only gets access to his money if the OP withdraws it for him
    - because the BF is hopeless with money
    - the OP withdrew money from the BF's account so that he could go shopping and buy the OP's birthday present
    - £150 was withdrawn from the BF's account
    - for him to spend on a birthday present for the OP
    - the BF appears to have spent £150 on something else
    - not a birthday present
    - which would - apparently - have been good money management
    - profligate b'staard!
    - apparently

Yes - but the birthday girl doesn't know what the money has been spent on - and I find it hard to believe its on booze in one night!
she obviously doesn't trust her BF - not even waiting to see if he has spent it on her birthday next week - trust issues here!
in her place I would have waited to see if my birthday present was worth about £150 - before accusing bf of wasting the money.

    No.

But she does know that she was quite happy with the idea that her allegedly "hopeless with money" BF would spend £150 on her birthday present.

If it turns out that he has spent it on a beautiful surprise, how many of us will refute all our insults?

    Maybe?

What I don't get is the 'his money' bit.

We have our money and I don't think either of us would be so selfish as to blow a large sum like that.

I'm still hopeful that there is a lovely surprise present on the way.
