I did say that we hardly ever go out - we're defintely not big drinkers, he just has a high tolerance. I would wager that he and I drink less in an average year than about 95% of people in the country! Not being horrible or anything, but 25 pints in one night sounds terribly unhealthy. I would be worried about the effect of that on his liver.
Just to put it in perspective for you - "One in ten drinkers intends to drink 20 pints on a night out"skintandscared wrote: »You'll be lucky if he continues to keep coming home at all if he's drinking quantities like that. 25 PINTS??!!!! Even calculated on 4% "weaker" lager, that works out at nearly 60 units of alcohol!! The body can process one unit of alcohol per hour... My OH is a big man too but even he rarely makes it to double figures. I'd be more worried for his life than his wallet if he's managing to down 25 pints...

How long will you let this continue...Doing £150 in on the lash must involve some coke because even in my greatest drinking days i could not have done anything near £150..I could with some coke...
My sister's ex used to pour the rent money into fruit machines, and could get through a massive amount in one night

OP what's happened over the last couple of days, has he said anything?52% tight0

If you honestly believe 25 pints in a night is anyone's idea of normal -and that because he only does it once in a while it isn't damaging then you're in denial or deluded.
A year ago I visited a friend in hospital who "only binge drank" -before they turned off her life support- she was forty two. The damage alcohol can do to a liver is truely frightening -before this happened I always assumed binge drinking couldn't do that kind of damage-I was wrong.
That said £150 (excluding cigerettes- it's a bit hard to get through near 60 fags and £130 in booze as you can't smoke inside anymore) in a club is quite do-able -but it really wouldn't matter if it was £20 or £200 -the point is that money was agreed to be reserved for one thing from the couple's budget and the OP's partner blew it all on himself and his mates instead.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

No, I don't think it's "normal" and that's not what I said (although I did include that Telegraph link to make the point that a surprising number of people do consider it normal). I said it is unusual but far from impossible for someone with a high alcohol tolerance (to counter other suggestions in the thread that it would be impossible to spend £150 at the pub). I seem to have given the impression that my OH is a massive lush who runs off to get plastered every couple of months and we all think this is "fine".If you honestly believe 25 pints in a night is anyone's idea of normal -and that because he only does it once in a while it isn't damaging then you're in denial or deluded.

From memory, I'd say the last time I saw him drunk would be about 7 years ago at a friends wedding. We probably have a couple of drinks over dinner with friends or family two or three times a year. So no, I'm not remotely worried about his liver!
And from a family (mine, not his) that has a lot of alcohol problems down one branch I'm very aware of potential problems.Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

My OH is a big lad (6'3" and build like the side of a house) and he can easily drink 25 pints - probably more - and come home drunk but not falling about.Angry_Bear wrote: »I seem to have given the impression that my OH is a massive lush who runs off to get plastered every couple of months and we all think this is "fine".

Thing is just because after 25 pints he isn't throwing up or passed out cold -doesn't mean his internal organs aren't getting damaged by what he's throwing at them.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I'm well aware of that, as is he. We're not worried as it isn't something he typically does, but is something he is physically capable of - my point was w.r.t the OP (who's thread we're hijacking - sorry!). It's perfectly possible that her OH DID spend the money on a night out "down the pub" and isn't keeping a nice surprise.Thing is just because after 25 pints he isn't throwing up or passed out cold -doesn't mean his internal organs aren't getting damaged by what he's throwing at them.
But for her sake, I hope I'm wrong.
ETA: And, having worked in a pub for years, people regularly drinking those sorts of amounts is not nearly as unusual as people on this thread seem to think - although now I feel I have to clarify - that doesn't mean I'm saying it's "fine", just that a lot of people do it, and the OH's husband could be one of those people.Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?
