I need to weigh up the pros and cons of switching my line from BT to Sky. If I were to do so, then after a year wanted to switch back to BT (or some other provider), would there be any sort of fee involved? If so, how much?

    Thanks

No charge, but a return to donor requires a 12m line rental contract.
A switch to another LLU provider is not usually possible.

I'm not doubting what you've said, but surely the difficulty switching to another LLU provider must be addressed soon given that all the decent deals are for line rental+broadband.

So it can be used for anything except Line Rental Saver?
When I agreed to my contract, the salesperson said that the £50 credit would go into my account (within a few days), so, as I had Anytime calls, I would have nothing to pay for a while, unless I made calls not included, but that I had to pay for the line saver immediately.
  • Got a letter from Sky telling me I would migrate in Feb 2014 and the monthly charge would be £17.90 per month inc line rental for unlimited bband. I saw Primus are doing line rental with evening calls for £6.99 might be cheaper to try and get a provider for bband only?

Could you use your sweetener credit towards your line saver were you to wait till it shows on your account then buy the line saver?

ie. pay for month 1 immediately on a monthly basis, then as soon as your sweetener is credited tell them you want to pay months 2 to 13 in advance, payment to be taken as from the beginning of month 2.

The only way around this seems to be a new line provision. If the deal is profitable enough, the new provider may absorb that cost.

I don't see why not, as you would be paying the annual fee in advance, but you can always ask them. I chose to book my line saver immediately, not wishing to pay a month at full price, so could not use the credit as it wasn't in the account at the time.(It's a good thing I did, too, as the price went up a few days later).
  • Have been changed from O2 to Sky and they are charging me a penalty for not having Sky TV and Sly Talk £7.50 in total
Are they allowed to do this?
I intend to change after new year

It's not a 'penalty'. If you take Sky TV you get a discount, if not you don't, and pay the higher rate. Bundle discounting, just like any other provider with a TV service will offer.
