MSE News: Sky takes over O2 and Be broadband: What does this mean for customers?

Have tried to read thread - didn't see anyone with same issue as me (but sorry if I missed it)
I've been very happy with my O2 legacy package which gave totally unlimited up to 20Mbps broadband for £13 per month (with O2 Mobile discount)
We use 100-150 GB per month and with O2 almost always got around 15Mbps and only had one outage in 5 years which was very quickly resolved - so I was reluctant to change or do anything to upset a system that worked extremely well.
I had my Sky letter today saying I will be switched over in Feb/March and two things concern me - first that it says my speed will be 'Up to 16Mbps' rather than "Up to 20" which makes me worry that if best i get is 75% of maximum my speed will drop significantly.
Also it says that my monthly charge is £15 with a £2 per month discount for first 12 months.
So unless I am missing something, after a year, I will be paying more for a less good service?
Was I just being naive to think everything would carry on exactly as with O2..?0 -
I've been paying BE(o2) £14.08 for 10MB bb. Got letter from Sky to say they'd be REDUCING my bill to JUST £14!!! when they switch me.WOW big deal.
So had a quick look around and plusnet have got a very good deal at the moment, which is expiring in a few hours. £1.99 for Unlimited BB upto 16Mb speed for 12months, then it's £9.99, when you also take their phone line for £14.50.
Left BE and BT and signed up with Plusnet at £1.99 (+£14.50 line rental) for 12months! I should save about £162 in the first year, then about £48 per year.
You can also pay for the years line rental upfront which would make it the equivalent of £9.99 per month. I'll do this once it's set up and running.
Forgot to mention, I got £35 tracked with Quidco, so fingers crossed this gets paid, but even if not it's a good deal in it's own right.0 -
I switched to Sky from BE. I was paying BE £14 plus the BT line rental about £16. I didn't get a £75 credit deal  but I did get 12 months BB for £2.50 plus the standard Sky line rental. Speed is faster, from the BE ~12 to ~18.
Also my main fear of having to deal with Sky customer service has proved unfounded so far, the couple of minor issues I had were addressed politely and accurately. V pleased, so far.
ps When moving from BE I wasn't given the option to keep BT line rental.0 -
Hi,
Just wondering what sort of speeds people are getting after moving to Sky?
When I was with Be, I was getting around 10mbps, I'm now getting around 4mbps.
I have spent a great deal of time with Sky on the phone trying to sort this issue out, but so far so far nothing has changed.
Anyone have any advice?
Have you only just moved over? The speeds start at 4mb to begin with and Sky DLM increases it every 24 hours until they detect the best speed for your line. You have to keep the router switched on 24/7.0 -

Hi, just received my letter from Sky, was paying £12.50 with o2 for my bb, reduced to £12.00 for twelve months, then £15.00.Think I am going to pay extra for McAfee.I am staying with BT phone line.

If you call Sky you can improve on that, even without taking their phone service.0

I'm taking BB alone, just switched, and the letter mentions the 10-day training period.0
