From what I can tell from this letter I'll be moved to Sky Broadband in Feb/March and start paying a total of £7.50 per month (for the first 12 months) and with no 12 month contract so I can leave anytime I want. We do not have Sky TV at home and we use BT for our line rental.
Can anyone confirm this is all I'll be paying (£7.50) - if so this is fine - it's less then I was paying to O2. There is mention of fee's for not having Sky TV and no Sky Line rental but I have no intention of getting either.
Sky see the £7.50 as free broadband with £5 and £2.50 supplements (resp) paid for not having phone and tv. If you take phone, you pay £2.50,take tv, £12.50 or take both, zero. They have supplements for not having, instead of discounts off the max £15, but the effect is the same.0 -
I was thinking of jumping ship to Plusnet until this evening.
My Current Situation:
Line Rental: with BT in month 11 of 12m pre-paid contract
Broadband: o2/Sky £6.50pm
TV: No TV package currently
Sky offered me this to stay:
Free Line Rental worth £140 per year
Free evening/weekend calls as standard.
Sky Broadband Unlimited for £7.50pm
In addition, they also credited my new Sky BB account with £40 when I voiced my concern about the reconnection fee to BT if I decided to leave Sky in the future once my 12 month deal had expired.
So basically I've got line free rental, calls and unlimited BB for the next 12 months for a total price of £50

Any Plusnet customers here?
I'm looking to move to a new BB provider. I saw online that they (Plusnet) are offering £2.75 a month BB for a 12 month contract. Sounds okay to me - especially since SKY are now trying to charge over 5 times that amount for the same.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -
Plusnet offer on now is actually £1.99 (as long as you are on the right exchange) but the catch is you must take their line rental (£14.50/month)0

As Quentin says, you really should look at that more carefully. Cheapest BB only deal is £8.49pm.

I think I prefer the £1.99 offer. :T
I'm pretty sure line-rental isn't free for most people anywhere - and if memory serves correct it's pretty standard - generally around the £12.50pcm mark give or take a bit either way.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -
If you go for it don't forget around £40 cash back from tcb too.0

You're kind of missing the point aren't you?
PlusNet - £14.50 * 12 for Line Rental = £174. Plus £1.99 * 12 = £23.88. Total = £197.88 minus £40 cashback ( if you actually get it ) = £137.88 for first 12 months.
Sky - Line Rental free for 12 months. BB - £7.50 * 12 = £90 minus £75 credit from Sky ( guaranteed ) = £15 for first 12 months.
So £15 against £137.88 - I know which I would prefer but up to you. Speedwise I would only have got around 3/4mb with PlusNet but around 6mb with Sky.0 -

You are just working out (incorrectly) the cost in £.
Not being with sky is worth £100s to lots of us!!0 -
Also, Sky are charging £15 per month for BB only (the phone line is paid separately to some other company).
So the CORRECT sum is Sky BB only = 12 * 15 = £180 a year vs Probably a hell of a lot cheaper elsewhere.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0
