  • Hi,

Just wondering what sort of speeds people are getting after moving to Sky?

When I was with Be, I was getting around 10mbps, I'm now getting around 4mbps.

I have spent a great deal of time with Sky on the phone trying to sort this issue out, but so far so far nothing has changed.

    Anyone have any advice?

OK,so reading the above - Sky agreed a charge of £5 pcm for taking BB only with a £75 bill credit.

Do the other posts mean I can expect to be billed £5 pcm PLUS other charges for not having TV or phone, which were not disclosed to me on the phone call when I agreed to migrate early?

I think not. I have just checked my bill. It seems alongside the £75 credit I am getting broadband for free, discounted by a further £2.50 to compensate for the sky tv supplement, and may just paying the £5 per month as a penalty for not having sky talk. Net result should be £5 per month.

    Sky Broadband Unlimited 13 Dec - 12 Jan £7.50
    Broadband Subscription Discounted 13 Dec - 12 Jan - £7.50
Supplement for not having Sky TV 13 Dec - 12 Jan £2.50
    Broadband Subscription Discounted 13 Dec - 12 Jan - £2.50
Supplement for not having Sky Talk 13 Dec - 12 Jan £5.00

This seems to mirror the way jem16 phrased it, and is OK. Not as described on the phone, but the net result is the same.

I was hoping to argue in a year's time that my BB itself was £5 pcm, if they tried to bump up the price! But at least this bill is right.

Thanks, that was my thoughts too. Have left it 1 day and 2 nights, hope that's not too late.

It shouldn't be. It usually starts around the third day. You should be able to see if it has started by logging into your Sky router at 192.168.1.0 and going to the Support tab and clicking log. You will see mention of training in that log.
Out of interest, can they restart the DLM if I request it later?

DLM is technically always running on your line but yes you could ask for it to restart the training.

    No it will be £5pm.

You'll not get anywhere with that. After one year your price will go up to £12.50. You're basically getting one year's free BB with a £5 penalty per month for not having Sky Talk.

More or less exactly the same as with O2

When did you change over? Usually Sky sets everyone up to start around 4mb (assuming they can at least get this) and once DLM kicks in it starts going up until it gets to the best possible reliable speed.

If you are after the initial 10 days, ask Sky to see if DLM was run and if not to start it and see if that solves the problem.

I was on free O2 BB.

    1. BB £5 p/m £20 credit
    2. BB + LL + w/e calls £7.50 p/m £40 credit
    3. Fibre BB + LL + w/e calls £20 p/m +£40 credit + free TV
    4. Fibre BB + LL + anytime calls £25 p/m +£75 credit

I have followed this thread with interest and decided to ring sky up this afternoon. Offered the following two deals:

1.- BB unlimited + LL ( weekend calls) + Sky Entertainment Extra all for £15.40 a month for 12 months + £40 credit (I have free o2 BB until the end of April).

    2.- BB Unlimited + Sky Talk all for £7.50 a month for 12 months + £40 credit

I want a deal with TV. For those people who accepted a deal with TV, is this what they have been offered? By reading the thread I somehow thought some people got deal number one paying 7.50 p/m (ie free LL) with a £75 credit instead of what I have been offered (15.40 p/m - ie free BB with £40 credit).

    cheers

Yes that's what I was offered and got. Initially it was with a £40 credit but managed to get them to increase that to £75 credit.

    I already have Sky TV.
  • Regarding DLM - I think that this only happens if you are connected to Sky's MPF service (ie if you take the phone as well). Not taking the phone, I will be on their SMPF hardware (and possibly in my case that is limited to offering ADSL1 only). I have seen no sign of DLM happening, MySky confirms it is not active, and I started from day 1 at 8Mbs (I used to connect on O2 at around 9Mbs ADSL2+) and it has stayed there. This probably varies from exchange to exchange depending on what SMPF hardware is there, some may well do ADSL2+.

And as for the bill, I was offered in the original letter £14/month for the first year including all the supplements for not having phone or TV. It is a complicated bill to follow, and the first one effectively covers around 6 weeks, but it all works out pretty exactly at that £14/month once the O2 refund is taken into account.

I got your option1, but my line rental was cheaper, as I paid in advance and before the price rise. £50 credit pays for most of my Anytime calls.
  • I got a letter today from Sky Broadband... currently I'm on the 12 months Free offer that was offered to stop people switching away from O2 whilst O2 were in the process of selling the business to Sky ...

From what I can tell from this letter I'll be moved to Sky Broadband in Feb/March and start paying a total of £7.50 per month (for the first 12 months) and with no 12 month contract so I can leave anytime I want. We do not have Sky TV at home and we use BT for our line rental.

Can anyone confirm this is all I'll be paying (£7.50) - if so this is fine - it's less then I was paying to O2. There is mention of fee's for not having Sky TV and no Sky Line rental but I have no intention of getting either.

The standard deal they give if you just migrate when your turn comes is £7.50 with no contract.

(You can ask them to delay your move so that you take full advantage of your free 12 months from o2, which they do agree to, though take the opportunity to try and get you to move now on a 12 month contract deal)
