yes didnt realise that, but they did charge me for broadband though.0

Having read this thread, I called the 0800 O2 number and selected the option to speak to someone regarding the Sky switchover. I explained that I was looking into other deals and requested my MAC Code. I was immediately put through to another person who proceeded to give me my MAC Code over the phone.
I asked whether there was anything better they could offer (currently £7.50/month broadband only) and was told there wasn't. I also asked whether the MAC Code should come through via email rather than them asking me to write it down and was told 'it should but may get stuck in spam email so better for me to write it down'.
No attempt to retain my custom whatsoever. MAC Code still not come through via email (yes, I checked the junk mail). Not impressed with my 1st contact with Sky but they gave me my MAC. Are ISPs obligated to provide the MAC in writing?
Looking for a cheap Broadband only deal is proving tougher than I thought. Thought the Plusnet offer was broadband only but requires line rental (but tied up with BT at the mo). Hope there'll be some good cash back/cheap offers in the New Year.
Good luck all.0 -
Did you choose 'thinking of leaving' and did you make it clear that you didn't just want broadband ? I was offered broadband for £7.50 before ringing to take up the early migration offer (tv, broadband and line).0

Well the mac code didn't arrive within 5 days as promised, but I did manage to get one after an online chat. DH tried to ring the reason for leaving number and all he got again was the hard sell, he then got put through back to O2, as Sky said it was up to O2 to give us the MAC code not Sky. He was on hold for 20 mins at which point he then got cut off.
Came home on Sunday afternoon to find that our broadband and phone line had been cut off. The Mac code had not been provided to anyone at this point in time. Asked to be re-instated, told I had to go through SKY as a new customer and I would need a new 18 month contract. Now had to go out and buy a dongle for £29.95 so I get online and are now waiting for BT to re-connect us.
We can't keep the old phone number, the MAC code is no good, because O2 have cut us off. Needless to say direct debit cancelled now, so they can't overcharge me again and when I have calmed down, a letter of complaint will be going to Ofcom.0 -
my sister has just had a text from sky saying that her sky bb account is now up and running. she has had no warning by email or post that the move from o2 was imminent, anyone else had this?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0

My experience is that I let the whole process just go through without doing anything - other than moving house in August and insisting I stayed with O2 until the changeover happens naturally.
I got a Sky letter in September saying the usual stuff:
BB Unlimited £7.50
SkyTV supp £2.50
SkyTalk supp £5.00
Sub £15.00
Welcome discount -£7.50
And so I let that go as well because I originally started out with O2 PAYG mobile and BE broadband 5 years ago for about £7.50 (with the 10 quid topup every 3 mnths). Seemed fair.
Then this morning I got rattled out of bed by a text message from Sky with my first bill: "Hello. Your bill this month is £14.75 and payment will be taken on or before 25/12/13"
Cheeky cretins. What about my discount!? Some welcome that is. Maybe I should contact them and wave my letter in their face. Not a happy camper, and only found this thread today as a result of beginning to look for new deals - there aren't any that are any good, as I prefer my Unlimited BB to be £5 or cheaper permanently. (Roll on P-2-P internet and we can all do away with all the ISPs once and for all! Come on nerds, do it. Do it now!)______________________________Darth Traderusing the Force of Compoundingsince a long time ago...0 -

That's very strange, as I had lots of communications about the changes (email and phone ), including a 'we will be migrating you on..' email, upon which I opted to take the migrate early offer.0
