If you want this in writing then write to them about the conversation, confirming date, time, Sky rep etc, and what was agreed about the migration and ask them to confirm this back to you.

I got put through by the o2 call centre as unwilling to pay 0844.

The guy (answered phone as o2 but then said o2/Sky) was very vague & I felt as if he was making it up as he went along. (e.g. with suggestion a confirmation email)

He implied there was a catch-up migration for people that opted out initially but didn't say what would happen if you refused the catch-up. (would the plug be pulled?)

Where can you find out what actual speeds are available in your local area?

Most companies have a checker on their site
Bt is here on top left

    http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayTopic.do?topicId=25795&s_cid=con_FURL_speedtest

This street checker shows your street and what others in area have got with other companies
    http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/speedtest/streetstats/

This open reach site shows when local exchange is due to be upgraded to fibre, if not already.

Sky has offered stand alone broadband, to some, but not all O2 customers, for £7.50. Generally, the £7.50 for broadband is if you take line rental and tv from them.

The migration offer will depend what, if any, packages you already have with Sky.

What Sky appear to be doing is giving a year's free BB to O2 migrators with line rental with someone else - eg BT.

However they are then charging £2.50 if you don't have TV and £5 if you don't have Sky Talk/Sky Line Rental. This is where the £7.50 comes from.

At the end of the year you have to pay the full cost of £7.50 for BB plus the penalties for not having Sky TV or Sky Talk/Sky Line Rental. This makes the price £15.

I have been told (by the Sky team via the O2 number) that my migration is likely to be January-February and will be £5pm. I do have Sky TV so won't pay the £2.50 penalty.

My free BB with O2 is up on March 2nd so will decide when I get the letter about the migration.
Sky line rental alone is £11.70 if paid in advance as line saver. As an ex-O2 customer, I have paid £9.95, but there has since been a price increase.

To be more precise it was £119 for the year and now is £140 for the year in advance.

I broke these down per monthly, as the Op quoted monthly rates.

Incidentally, at the moment I am very pleased with my Sky broadband, which went live yesterday. I was getting 4.8 to 5.4( on a good day). Yesterday it was 4.8 and today 5.8.

How's your Sky HD box now? Hopefully problem resolved?

Glad to hear the BB speeds seem similar though.

The tech customer service lady said she thought it was a faulty box and the engineer, who came today, said it could be a faulty box or a software problem, that he had a device to fix. apparently there is a known fault with the software in some new boxes. Anyway, he said that rather than update the software, he would give me a new box and also check the software in it, so here's hoping that all is well in the morning.

A very pleasant and helpful engineer, who said I was to call him, personally, if there were any more problems.

Can't remember who has posted what. :o

But the above doesn't necessarily follow, my 'free' BB was supposed to be until 3rd March 2014, but received notice of proposed October migration in September.
Now hopefully postponed, after calling them, just no real confirmation, except nothing to pay this month. :)
    Move along, nothing to see.

i have been on o2 broadband for a few years (unlimited broadband, line rental and evening/weekend calls). I used to pay around £23/month, I think it was. When I went to renew back in June of this year, they offered to reduce the cost for these services to £13/month, which of course I accepted.

I received a letter from Sky today about the takeover, stating that my cost for the same services would rise to £17.90 for the first 12 months, taking effect Jan/Feb 2014.

I am just off the phone to them (to see if I could wangle a better deal) and am pleased to say they offered me the same products for £5/month (yes - £5) for 12 months, taking effect 3 weeks from now.

When I questioned her about the low cost she answered to the effect that Sky wish to retain the O2 customers who have changed over, and may not be happy with the hassle of it all.

It hasn't really been any hassle. I keep the same landline number, get the same service, and am paying next to nothing for the next 12 months.

I recommend anyone else changing over makes the phone call...

Sky line rental only gives inclusive weekend calls, but the Anytime calls package (£5/month) does include 0845 numbers. Information left on the website and included in leafleting to O2 customers does give the false impression that 0845s are not included and that there is a weekend and evenings call package.

Anyone left O2 mobile while still on the free 12 month Broadband deal? I just wondered how the £5 discount was treated?
