You're right, I am paying O2 (now Sky of course) the £6.25 as I took out the yearly contract with O2 just before it was announced that O2 were selling out to Sky. I also still pay O2 £5 per month for a Text only Sim card, so am getting the £5 discount. As I'm still using my O2 mobile, I don't know what would have happened if I had stopped this.

I renewed mine in December 2012.

When the takeover was announced in March 2013 many of us phoned O2 and said we didn't want to go to Sky, result was, we let them bribe us (:D) with 12 mths free.

At the time there was a lot of discussion on here and elsewhere.
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • Phoned O2 for MAC but was offered 12 months line rental and broadband for £10 per month plus a £50 credit giving the first 5 months free.

There's a 30 day guarantee so if it all goes wrong, I can still leave.

Remaining concerns are whether SIP (VoIP) will work with the Sky Hub and the fact that there's no USB port on it to share disks. Time will tell.

Don't think they will guarantee you can return your telephone line back to wherever it was without entering a new minimum contract!

Which part of O2 did you speak to? Was it the Olympus Team or accounts?

I called the O2 0800 number as in post 262 above. The post says it's the Olympus team, but I didn't ask.

I received my Sky migration letter at the beginning of the week.

It was a bit vague about my actual migration date, stating that it would be in "December/January". I would seemingly be agreeing to migration if I didn't contact them to request otherwise before the end of October.

I am currently six months into a twelve month free-of-charge O2 retention deal for the all-rounder package. Migrating to Sky would cost me £7.50/month. I'm not sure when the charge would have commenced - beginning of November or after the actual migration takes place in "December/January".

I phoned the 0800 number today and explained that I would like to remain with O2 rather than migrate.

I was informed that I'd be moved to the "back of the queue for migration" and that they would contact me again in March 2014, when my O2 retention deal comes to an end.

It seems like a no-brainer to phone them and ask to remain on O2 and not be migrated just yet if you are on a free of charge O2 retention deal. No point paying £7.50/month if you can get away with paying nothing.

Unless, of course, they contact me in March 2014 and say that they can only offer me a £15/month deal or one tied to telephone rental and that I've missed the boat for £7.50/month broadband only deals.

I was promised a text and an email to confirm that I was remaining with O2, but, surprise, surprise, I have received neither yet.

I too have free broadband (but on a legacy O2 contract) and took the same action as you following receipt of what appears to be an identical letter from sky. I may be wrong, but based on a conversation I had with the advisor, I got the impression that there would still be the 50% deal in due course. During the call, there was no mention of the deal being withdrawn (they could have used that 'threat' to incentivise me, but didn't).

Accepting that it's a risk (I set this against Sky's commercial interest in retaining customers having bought O2's 'book' so to say) I decided to wait and see.

Is there a pattern to migration e.g. are broadband only being left until last?

Can't be that (See spud17's posts)

If you want to join Sky early for any reason, you can do, and if you want to delay your migration, then you can do that too, so all bases look covered!
