Adding a call package is exactly what they want you to do after they have hooked you onto their line rental!
Their call charges are massively expensive when compared to alternative call providers that Sky prevent you from using e.g. 18185 here
I will never take Sky line rental because I want the total flexibility of paying cheap rates for the calls that I actually make. I don't want to add a call package and want to be able to change ISP easily if required.
Yes I will be renewing my BT line rental saver soon and if Sky become uncompetitive I will be able to easily switch to another ISP that gives me what I want, not what Sky think that I should have!0 -
Well how is your comment that, if I were to switch line rental to Sky today, that I could also switch back to BT free of charge today relevant then? I wouldn't need to switch back today, I'd need to switch back in the future.
Makes your original comment redundant, don't you think?
The only way it would be guaranteed would be if it were an Oftel control.
Because there is no reason to think that it will ever be chargeable.
BT 'could' increase their line rental to £100pm next month-but there is no good reason to think that they will.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I too would prefer to stay with BT. My only concern is that the broadband only deals are getting thin on the ground.
I agree with this. I'd rather stay with BT too.
At the moment it seems that Sky will give BB at £7.50 but only for 12 months. After that it's an extra £5pm if you don't have Sky Talk. So £12.50pm plus BT Line Rental or £7.50pm with Sky Line Rental plus £5pm Anytime package.
Works out the same but you get the call package with Sky too. Miss out on cheap international calls through the likes of 18185 though. However there's Skype for that I suppose.0 -
I have signed up with Sky this weekend and got the same deal as Spikey_w: £15 for BB, Line rental and anytime calls
I dialled O2. You get though to Sky and because whoever answers knows about the O2 move to Sky it was a lot better than last week's offer Sky gave me.
FWIW I have the above with O2 now therefore it is a straight transfer to Sky. It looked to me that other providers (PLUSNET, EE, BT etc) would not be cheaper for the next 12 mths and as has been said next year's offerings will be different again.
I hope the service is as good as O2 but others say it should be....0 -

If you make enough calls then adding a call package makes sense, who cares if companies make money from it, the main thing is that it suits you
You might have your reasons for not wanting to take Sky LR but it doesn't mean those reasons are applicable to others
To me it seems logical and cheaper to pay Sky £10 per month for LR+BB than pay BT/O2 £15.45 for LR+BB, that is highlighted further if you add the Anytime call package (£5 with Sky versus £7 with BT)0 -
That seems to be the best stand-alone broadband deal yet (ie, no TV or line rental).
What O2 retention deal were you on?
My mother in-law is on a £4.25/month O2 retention deal for the Basic package and her letter states that her new Sky payment will be £7.50 from the end of September. There is always a contract. Do you mean 'no tie in beyond the discounted 12 minimum term'? Or 'no tie in of more than 30 days within the discount period'? I finds the latter hard to believe-where's the incentive for Sky in that? Are these migration deals personalised, or is everyone getting the same offer? Is the £6 just for the broadband? If so, which broadband tariff-Sky Unlimited? Not when you migrate.
You are agreeing to Sky putting you on a new contract from the migration date with no minimum term.
Had to dig out the letter so apologies for the delay. The letter says £12:50 Unlimited Broadband and a welcome discount - new monthly price £6. Won't be tied into a 12 month contract. Has anyone else been offered this?
They told me I was on an old legacy O2 system (slow) and the sky one will be faster. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It seems everyone migrating (rather than moving early) ) gets a welcome discount for a year and no tie in.
It's just the price that varies0 -
I am going to wait until they change me over as i don't want to sign up with them for a year or so or change from bt for my landline.
I got a letter but I cant find it
from memory it is going to be £15 a month with a one month contract - speed and download limit unchanged
my internet was off when i got homejust knocked the box off and on again and it worked
i am sure the switch over date was the end of September
how can i tell if i'm switched or has anyone got a tel number i can ring please to check the date?"what lies behind us & what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us" Ralph Waldo Emerson0 -

Having posted before about O2 to Sky deals I just thought I would say what my experience was after three weeks. The cost was still £7 less than I was paying with O2 for BB and phone lines with weekend calls. Quality and speed of the broadband seems fine. I cannot tell any difference. Router was easy to set up and has a marginally better range than the O2 one. Streaming Lovefilm seems fine. The free (for a year) Sky+ TV is OK. Chap turned up and fitted dish and box.. Was on time and polite. A vast number of channels with nothing worth watching that you cannot get on Freeview. But a reminder on my phone and PC will set me up to cancel before any bills.0
