MSE News: Sky takes over O2 and Be broadband: What does this mean for customers?

If you are migrated rather than accept a new deal to move early, then you are not in any minimum contract, yet still get a 12 month introductory offer.
Everyone gets a different deal it seems.0 -
Are you not subject to any minimum term stated in your original o2 contract though? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
-
There is always a contract. Do you mean 'no tie in beyond the discounted 12 minimum term'? Or 'no tie in of more than 30 days within the discount period'? I finds the latter hard to believe-where's the incentive for Sky in that? Are these migration deals personalised, or is everyone getting the same offer? Is the £6 just for the broadband? If so, which broadband tariff-Sky Unlimited?
I also received a directed letter specifying I can migrate onto Sky broadband for £7.50 for the first 12 months with no tie in. I can leave anytime. Once migrated then O2 is out of the loop. The alternative, which is not so well publicised is that you can stay as is until the O2 residential BB is shutdown.
Where the incentive for Sky? Without knowing the terms of their deal done with O2, I sure Sky is not doing this out of the goodness of their heart, perhaps there is a early migration of customers bonus payout?0 -
I've had no letter, but what I'm weighing up is whether I should take out the BT line rental saver, which fell due for renewal last week. I am on O2 legacy BB free of charge until March 2014.
My thoughts were that (a) It would be nice to align BB and phone, (b) Sky may force an early change of plan which could mean me throwing away some of my line rental saver period (hadn't even seen this thread when I decided that could be a problem) and (c) Sky could offer me a juicy carror when migration time came, if they thought I'd be up for moving phone over to them.
I am still thinking it is best to keep paying full rental, for the sake of £20 or so over the next 6 months, to keep maximum flexibility, and then either take it out or switch to sky once sky themselves came back with a "contract" rather than a retention agreement which others on this thread have indicated they may not even honour, depending on which CSA you speak to.
Anyone have any wise words of wisdom?0 -

Sky won't force you to have their line rental.
They also won't honour your current o2 free deal if you accept their terms and migrate.0 -

Speak to Sky, they might be able to make you an offer that makes switching early worth it
I know people who have got LR+BB for £10 per month0 -

Why would anyone want to take Sky line rental and then have to pay their ridiculous call charges? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Sometimes line rental is just a means to a broadbandy end. Calls can be made from mobile at no charge, not even the ridiculous 15[p connection fee BT now charge.
I used to go for Virgin Media broadband-only without phone line, when it was £10, but at >> £20 now it';s simply not worth it compared with phone + BB on non-cable.0 -

I'm in a very similar position with free BB until March, although my LRS only runs out in December.
I'm sitting tight, basically hoping Sky don't try and migrate me until next year (and will phone to delay it if it ends up being sooner).
Even if you could get LR+BB for £10pm by moving across early, you'd basically be paying that for LR only given you have free BB, and £10pm for LR only isn't an amazing deal.
Like you, I want the flexibility to stay or go, depending on the offers at the time, and signing up for 12m with BT doesn't give me that.0
