It depends on what you actually want e.g. do you want to take Sky line rental and then pay more for calls as you will not be able to then use an alternative call provider?

It is all explained here but they would obviously like you to move over to Sky early and take extra services from them.

I was referring to BB only customers who are currently on a 12 months free deal due to expire in Spring 2014.

When I spoke to Sky recently I told the Sky advisor that I thought it might be better to hold off on joining Sky just in case there were any last minute offers. He said Sky are trying to be as upfront as possible and actually offering everyone deals as a reward for migrating early. Those that are waiting until the migration period is due will not get the same rewards and will be put on a like for like package cost-wise. This is pretty much confirmed on the website.

Anyways.. I was offered free Sky TV package\installation etc but didn't want it. I was also not interested in going back to BT. In the end I took the free Sky unlimited broadband with line rental.

    Line Rental 9.95* (12 months pay upfront @ £119.40)
    Call Package 5.00 (Anytime calls)
    Broadband 0.00

It averages out at £14.95 per month. The £119.40 has already come out of my account so £5 per month from now on.

I tried to post this as a thread but it's not working, which is a good thing as I have just noticed it is better suited in this thread.....

    Hi Guys,

I am a newbie to posting on the forum, although I have been reading them for some time. I have found some amazing tips on the forum, so I registered this morning to share my story, which could be (seriously) helpful for any of you who have O2 home broadband and are out of the contract period.

My OH has a O2 mobile and we registered for broadband and a home phone with them a few years ago. At some point early this year our contract ended and because we are totally rubbish we just kept paying the suddenly hugely inflated bills (roughly £37 per month + line rental - ouch!). Swapping was on our to do list, then I received a letter from orange (my mobile provider) offering me home broadband for £2.50 a month + line rental and some other perks (£25 M&S voucher). We were all set to change and my OH rang O2 to get his MAC code. As you have all experienced I'm sure, when you do this the company you are leaving, pull out the best deals to try and keep you. The long and short of it is this was the offer:

Unlimited Home Broadband & Router & Antivirus
Sky TV Entertainment Plus Package (not sports or movies)
    Free HD SKY+ Box
    Free Installation (Dish etc)
    Free Weekend Calls (UK landlines)

FOR £14.50 PER MONTH - TOTAL!!

I still can't really believe it, even if it was plus line rental it would be a mental bargain compared to what we had been paying, but we asked about 500 times if that included line rental, and were told THAT LINE RENTAL was all we paying for, everything else was free for a year, on a 12 month contract, so we are not even contractually obliged to stay with them after the free stuff is gone!

So that's my story, so if anyone has O2 and thinks they're out of contract, it GOT to be worth a call.............

P.S I'm getting free sky/ phone and broadband yay :j

P.P.S - extra info: if you are planning to move during the contact (as we are) home move is free - another bonus, last time we moved we got stung for a relocation bill.

That's me, See my earlier posts. (post #167)

I have spoken to Sky who said they couldn't care less about the free deal agreed with O2.
They have my DD details, and if I let them take a payment after 5th October I will be deemed to have accepted their £7.50/mth deal.

I'm tied to BT rental saver, which runs parallel to the O2 contract, i.e. same month for term end.
In the absence of any decent BB only deals, I'm going to give Sky a chance.

Thinking about it, O2 probably gave those 12mth free deals in good faith, because initially the changeover was projected to be at least a year before anything happened.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Sky do say we don't have to migrate and can stay on o2 equipment till next spring.

Did you get anywhere with that?

    They did.

I am on BB only and am on free 12 months until March and haven't been told I'm migrating yet.

When I get the letter, I intend to try and stay on O2 until the Spring in the hope of it being free, rather than migrating and paying 7.50 per month.

I will then ask for a MAC either just before they switch off the equipment or the end of my 12 months, whichever is sooner. Can anyone see any problems? Thanks.

You'll struggle to get a better deal than that offered by Sky.

    hello all,
Have read the above with interest.
Don't understand what I was offered today based on some of your experiences:
1st they wanted £15 up front fee
Then £24.50pm for BB unlimited, free anytime calls & line rental which would increase to £29 in 12mths. (I don't want TV)
They did not understand that I thought the up front fee was ridiculous since I would migrate for free later. Also my e-mail from SKY suggested the possibility of free BB.
I pay O2 less than £25pm so there is no incentive for me to migrate early - only a penalty in the upfront fee and the prospect of an increase in 12mths time.

Thanks and I agree, but I can't say I'm keen on Sky, and even more so when they're not honouring the O2 deals.

BT Unlimited is currently £16 for 18 months with 6 months free and a £50 Sainsbury's voucher which works out at £7.89 a month, so I see that as quite tempting. I'm not in any rush and the offer ends soon, but there's always another one just around the corner.
  • have received this email, has anyone called them based on similar? are they really offering 12 months free? (handy because my O2 mobile contract is up soon and it would give me more leverage when talking to them as they wouldn't have the £5 discount on my BB to wave at me, I am currrently on the 12 months free).

    The packages you want
We've changed our standard packages to give you more of what you want and need. For example, we wouldn't usually offer broadband without line rental as standard but now we do – just for you.
    Quote:
    At the price you want
If you move to Sky, we'll try to match or beat your current monthly package subscription price including any offers that you get. And we'll move you to the package that's best for you based on what you have today. Rather than wait for this, you can call us and move earlier with one of our best-ever welcome deals, like 12 months free Sky Broadband Unlimited.
I got the same, has anyone called sky about this?
