You agree a price based on what they say they will pay for P&P. If they do not actually pay that they have not kept to their part of the bargain.
Where do they say that is what they will actually pay?It is a charge to cover delivery.
I am sure it does not cost £7.99 for the shopping channel to deliver an item but that is their charge and people obviously pay it if they want the item.0 -

Is it not reasonable to assume that a sum entered under the designation "P&P" is the sum due for that element of the transaction? It is implicit in that term of sale that that is the actual cost.
I don't use the shopping channel, nor do they as far as I know have a star rating system for buyers to use to give an opinion on all aspects of their service.0 -

You are assuming, they are not saying.0 -

Of course they are if they put an amount under that designation that should be what they pay for it.
It is immaterial in any case, that is my view and that is the view of many buyers, so those who don't abide by that will suffer poor feedback.
I charge what I pay and expect others to do the same.0 -
Why do people get worked up about Ebay sellers charging shipping at above cost, but seem OK to pay the fixed charges of around £8.00 that some of the shopping channels charge?
I actually agree. 2 certain shopping channels regularly sell items that clearly wouldn't cost £7.99 to send out. I have bought things in the past from said channels & they just turn up as normal 1st class standard post through RM. And you get charged £1.57-ish just for the privilege of ordering by phone if you have no access to internet! So that's nearly 10 quid on top of purchase price to start with. But you know that already when you are buying the items. It's not rocket science to work that out.
Sometimes eBay don't seem that bad after all..........0 -

Are these stars really that important? I never take any notice when buying and will probably ignore completely after this (to me) educational thread.
The stars are what ebay use to decide whether we are good sellers or not. Sellers must aim to get 5* in every category every time as most sellers maintain at least 4.8 and above, so start going a lot lower and many buyers don't like it.
If it goes below 4.4 with any other factors you can drop to below standard and that affects what you can list and would also mean that a private seller could not make use of free listing offers. Also, the lower your stars (with other factors) the less visibility you have so you may stop getting buyers anyway.
However, regardless of your headline stars if you get as few as 2 low stars (either a 1 or a 2*) in any category and you are a very small seller you can face problems, and again drop to below standard. Even slightly more active sellers need to keep that figure no more than 3 lows. Those 3 lows are over the course of a year.
The stars are the reason we and the community boards get so many threads about being restricted- sellers blindly believe they can charge what they want and not suffer any consequences- which is why I keep asking why sellers are so insistent we can keep charging for all the extras- as I am sure that many of them are ignoring the fact that it is all very well to charge for everything, but if it means you lose visibility on ebay, or even get restricted it seems rather foolish advice.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. good_advice wrote: »Hi. I have just bought a box set of dvds and are very pleased to have won the bid.
The postage however is a different story...
I paid £4 p&p. The envelope says postage paid £2.60 and for the envelope would suggest 20p = total postage to seller £2.80.
I have asked for a part refund of £1.20 for the over charge on postage.
The seller wants to give me a total refund for dvds and postage as long as I send the dvds back at my expense.
I wish to keep the dvd box set and just have the part refund of postage of £1.20. What should I do?
You did not over pay it is postage & packaging not just postage! (packaging does not come free, it has to be bought or sourced).
Plus you saw the price when you bid and agreed to that price, and yes if you want to send back (recorded to prove postage) you will have to pay and that will cost you more postage than you feel you have been overcharged!Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
can I most humbly ask if you raised the subject with the seller before bidding?
Ralph:cool:No, because it could have arrived in a box, tissue wrapped and it would have cost in that region.
Surely the point of postage and packaging is to get the item to its destination in an undamaged condition? It appears that your items arrived undamaged otherwise I'm sure you would have mentioned it.
If the auction description stated "Items will be delivered in a presentation box with a bow and ribbon." then you can quite rightly argue that you were overcharged.
However, ebay is generally a place used by people who are happy to eschew unnecessary niceties in return getting the item they want at the lowest possible price.
Therefore to buy on ebay (and then argue at length on internet forums about a penny pinching a couple of quid back in postage) whilst at the same time "assuming" that the item will arrive in unnecessary additional packaging at the sellers expense when this is not stated anywhere in the auction seems a strangely inconsistent expectation.
If for some strange reason I expected my purchase in a box and tissue, then I would ask the seller if they included a box and tissue. If the answer was no (and it was that important to me) then I would not bid!
I'm sure a nicely lit boutique shop on the high street full of attractive assistants will include you a nice box in a shiny rigid bag with twisted hemp handles and a smile in return for a far higher price (and profit margin).
Maybe ebay should add an extra P&P&P charge for those people who expect "postage and packing and presentation" ?• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.0
