I would see postage and packing as a service being provided by the seller. I would not expect any business to supply a service at cost.
Glad I don't have to deal with the type of Ebay buyer that would think otherwise. Sounds a nightmare.0 -

The problem is that if you sell you will meet these buyers- otherwise as I keep saying why would any seller ever come on here moaning they have been restricted due to their stars?
This is a meaningless discussion, if someone is serious about selling on ebay they need to be aware that many buyers will not tolerate excessive p and p and will mark the seller down.
There is no button on ebay that will allow a seller to get poor stars removed because' a few random people on an internet forum said that the buyer isn't fair'.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If that's a padded envelope you need to tell me where you can get them for 20p.

having said that there are long running arguments over whether or not p&p should include just postage or more to cover the cost of packaging time and transport to the post office and £4 p&p isn't excessive compared to what some websites charge.0 -

It has been a real eye opener for me and Im glad I don't have to get involved in it.
I prefer the idea (as per my work) of agree a price and do the deal on that basis. To me what a seller paid is nothing to do with the selling price.
Cannot think of any other business that works like this.0 -

I've got a feeling Costa would sell a fair few less cups of coffee if the £2 cup had "we paid 11p for this coffee" written on it.

Is it not reasonable to assume that a sum entered under the designation "P&P" is the sum due for that element of the transaction? It is implicit in that term of sale that that is the actual cost.
I don't use the shopping channel, nor do they as far as I know have a star rating system for buyers to use to give an opinion on all aspects of their service.
That is the bit i fail to understand, where is it stated that the price of PandP is the actual cost?0 -

Can't stop laughing at that sentence. No business ever provides a free service. Anything that appears free is recovered through the sale of products either to yourself or other customers, if not the business will quickly go bankrupt.
Also a number of eBay sellers are private individuals getting rid of thing they don't want. They have to estimate postage costs and sometimes will overestimate and sometimes underestimate.0 -
You can get them for 35p here:

Wrong. You don't know where the padded envelopes were purchased from or whether they can usefully use a bulk buy of 20 padded envelopes or whether they would be able to wait for an online order to arrive.
At WHSmith they cost £3.99 for 3 and are probably better quality than the cheap bulk buy you found.0 -

I was simply pointing out in this part of my post that you can get envelopes for close to that price.0
