    dark knight,

If you're on Sky's own network, then you don't need a MAC (Migration Authorisation Code), therefore you would place an order directly with BT. You can do this on BT's website.

You'll need to switch your telephone line and calls at the same time, as BT Broadband cannot be supplied from the "Sky Voice & Broadband network".

During the switching process, Sky will be informed , so you don't need to contact them. However, always check your Sky billing after the switch to make sure that they don't continue to bill you.

If you are within a minimum term, you can still switch, but early termination charge(s) would likely be applied, per the rates at www.sky.com/earlytermination.

For other information on switching from Sky Broadband, see:

    Huge thanks pen1,

However can you clarify what you mean by sky's own network? When we moved in it was BT engineers calling to the house to activate us with Sky is that the same thing?

    Hi dark knight,

It's their network that uses Local Loop Unbundling (LLU) and
"enables operators such as Sky to add [their] own equipment to BT's copper lines".
    See http://www1.sky.com/networktransfer/

Most customers who receive line rental, calls and broadband from Sky, will be on Sky's own network.

If you're switching to BT, they will check your line in any event, during the order process and determine whether you need a MAC.

If you are one of the minority that requires a MAC, they will give you instructions as to how to add the MAC to your order after you've obtained it from your existing provider.

How? The free through BT option is on computer through the web only. To watch on your sky box is £12 a month with £15 activation fee.

have checked with BT again and if you have BT Bb you can have BT sport Free on your Sky box if you start a new contract. Costs £12 if you don't have BT Bb.

Must admit I've only seen the BT 'free' Sport deal without any of the finer details. Can someone confirm, if I take BT Broadband I can get the 'free' Sport on my Sky platform or do I need to get BT TV as well?

Either. Though most people with a Sky box are opting for the Sky platform option without taking a BT Vision/YouView package.

It is free via $ky if you use BT broadband. Just phone BT up and NOT $ky and tell then your $ky viewing card number. If you don't use BT broadband it will be £12 per month.

I am a BT broadband customer and have an old sky+ box but I have not been a sky customer for 5 years.

Will I be able to watch via this?

If you have an active Sky 'Free to View' card, yes. If not, they cost £25, the last time I checked. Though that price may be wrong now.
  • If you have any form of Sky Satellite service, including Freesat from Sky, as a BT Broadband customer you can get the channels for free that way instead. The HD option is available via Satellite.

Aha! I think this is the information I've been searching for everywhere!

So if I signed up for BT Broadband & line rental we get BT Sports channels included at no extra cost AND because we have Sky TV (Sky+ HD Box) we can watch those BT Sports channel(s) on our TV via satellite rather than over broadband?

Also I notice that BT seem to be offering their HD-TV option 'free' for a year if we sign before August 1st?

Anyone know what the minimum contract length is for an appropriate BT Broadband / Line Rental package that gets us BT Sports? I'm no fan of BT with their offshore call centres and website blocking, but inclusive footy sounds tempting.

    Cheers,

    Steve
