MSE News: BT Sport: is its 'free' offer any good?

Sky won't be worried, they're just offering a discount to people thinking of switching which betters the BT price.
Interesting thoughts. Considering Sky is now facing the most pressure it has ever faced from external competition, in the form of YouView, BT and TalkTalk. And many other ISP's too, shortly.
Plus internally, where profits are concerned, they are now facing an upward pressure of costs and a downward pressure from a decrease in profits, due to BB and telephony churn coupled with offering mega discounts to customers to stay.
So yeah, they'll be worried by this.
But for the consumer?!? Oh, discounts galore! They can now move their BB & phone and get the free BT Sport channels AND get mega discounts from Sky to keep their TV business.
Don't 'cha just love competition!?! .:D0 -
Sky won't be worried, they're just offering a discount to people thinking of switching which betters the BT price. For the majority of our broadband customers (those whose Sky Broadband and Talk services are provided on Sky’s own network, or those who are switching to Virgin Media or another provider that is on a non-BT compatible network e.g. TalkTalk), all you need to do is contact your new provider who will place an order for you.
So, unless customers choose to tell Sky they're thinking of switching, they won't get the chance to change the customer's mind before the order has been placed.0 -
That old content and details from the well known poster a516 is now out of time frame. And the scenario for BT, Sky Activities and Top Up TV is now one in flux. So everyone will just have to hold out for the reports to see what happens.0

I've just gone to BT for my broadband on a cheap deal but I still won't be able to get BT sport as my internet is too slow for streaming (I live in the sticks) I don't have a sky dish or cable. I don't give a toss about football but anyone wanting to watch motogp next year will need to get btsport to watch it (which I'm very annoyed about) so how do I get to access BT sport without paying for sky TV which I don't want either.Nothing to see here, move along.0

Is there no possibility that you could upgrade your internet?
Otherwise, it's a Sky minimum subscription I'm afraid.
(The good news is that, after the minimum term, you can continue using the Sky box to view free )0 -

The only way at present is, assuming you can get ITV4 on Freeview, getting a BT Vision+ box and a viewing card. But that's going to cost you a connection charge of £49, £5 a month and a one-off £10 for the viewing card for just the two BT Sport Channels.:(0 -

Actually Colin, if ones line speed isn't fast enough to recieve internet TV, BT won't sign anyone up at all. You have to have a line speed of at least 4Mbps to qualify for either a BT Vision or YouView from BT box.0 -
I think your calculator is faulty!
Your figures are a little off, but BT would still be cheaper.
BT:
Line Rental £15.45
.
Line rental is only £10.75 per month with BT if you pay 12months in advance.

I can go to any broadband provider but it will still be the same telephone cable going to my house so the speed will be the same, no cable here or fibre optic BB.Nothing to see here, move along.0
