Which area are you staying in, if York is 40mins away - which direction?

    North. :-)

We're staying between Sheffield and Barnsley.

What about the butterfly farm near leeds? Bit closer than York and that would be a lovely thing for the kids.

If that really is the only reason, he can get an internet dongle for his laptop or use his phone as a wireless hub.

But as far as you accompanying him to visit his family is concerned - your dd is only 2.5yrs old, she probably doesn't remember her cousins from one trip to the next, so at this stage in her life it isn't going to make much difference whether she goes or not. You are clearly disenchanted with OH's family, and everything to do with the trip, so why keep putting yourself through it?

But since you are going to be there and looking for something to do with your dd, there are quite a few places in Sheffield that offer indoor things to do for toddlers

Gran lives in a mobile black spot. We've tried dongles, tethering, hacking the neighbours' wifi, everything. I have to divert my mobile to her landline when we go there in case anybody needs to contact me. Because of client requirements, he can't work in public places like hotel lounges or coffee shops.

DD does remember her cousins. She talks about them between visits and they're now making an appearance in her pretend play.

I looked at Sheffield, but they were all outdoor places or softplay.

Who organised the weekend? You or your OH?

Me. We had a get together for MIL's birthday at the end of Feb, and pregnant SIL asked when we'd be able to meet the baby. I added 4 weeks to the due date and offered 2 weekends. It was then confirmed and organised by texts and messages with everybody else by the middle of March.

DH doesn't organise. He thinks he can decide on Friday lunchtime to go away that weekend. It just doesn't work like that when you have a toddler!!

She might also like http://www.visitleeds.co.uk/things-to-do/Leeds-Abbey-House-Museum/details/?dms=13&venue=1583967 - much smaller than York Museum but same basic idea. The old toys are fun.

http://www.leeds.gov.uk/museumsandgalleries/Pages/Things-to-See-and-Do.aspx - the farm yard is open air but there are lots of building in which to hide if it rains. Piglets, lambs and chicks etc are free range and can be chased by small people?

In future I would leave everything concerning his family to him to sort.

    Me.

And see how much good it's done you. Next time, leave it up to him. If it doesn't get organised, you won't be going, and I doubt that'll cause you any heartache at all.
