geez if someone sits next you when you are out who is smoking that's their choice. I am sure they haven't banned smoking outside yet!!
Your choice to move away from them.
Plenty of other smells do make people sick like BO and wee!! haha
It is about time they did ban smoking outside it stinks, it gets on your clothes, in your hair and in your mouth.
Yes it's people's choice to smoke but not to make everyone else suffer because of their filthy habit.
I also wouldn't move if someone sat next to me smoking why should I so what I do is spray a cheap body spray in their direction.0 -

People should respect other people at work. Its disrespectful to smoke at work (keep it in your home) or wear perfume/aftershave that invades peoples space. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Crikey, I'm a care assistant in a nursing home and I can tell you there are far worse smells than smoking! If you are that bothered by someone having a cigarette then you should probably see your doctor as there may be a physical/psychological cause for it. I can really smell when someone has had a cigarette, its not nice but i would rather smell that than most of the 'normal' things i deal with on a daily basis.
Also i have worked in lots of different jobs since i was 16 and only a handful of people have smoked. Hardly anyone smokes now compared to 20 years ago so shouldn't be a problem.0 -

What about BO or stinks like that?
What about working a mouldy office with no windows - lots of smells thereWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

If they have BO, someone should tell them politely.
Mouldy offices are probably illegal.
If people want to smoke they should do it after work or on their days off, keep it away from the workplace. If I was an employer I'd also ban perfume/aftershave.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You'd have a job getting staff then as all the girls I know wear perfume and what next?berbastrike wrote: »If they have BO, someone should tell them politely.

My "thing" is strong coffee. The smell of it makes me gag. Fortunately, I share a tiny office with a tea drinker despite the company having a big, fancy espresso machine.
OP - You are worrying about something that might not happen. You might get lucky with non-smoking workmates. Don't let it put you off applying. Or buy a nosegay.0 -

Bit OTT.
Ask if you can change desks first.
Mind you I have a medical problem which causes me issues with air freshers and some perfumes.
They use to put air fresheners in the toilets of one office to hide smells, and that included the disabled toilets which I used to take medication. (I tried in the non-disabled toilets once before the air fresheners were put in and hit my head)
So I complained but they refused to do anything so use to go into the disabled toilets and dump the air fresheners in the sanitary bin.
It would take them 8-10 weeks before they put another one in and I would repeat.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0
