nah that would be a case of be treated the same - no one said you had to actually smoke a cigarette just say you are trying to stop and have a fag one but love the smell :)

Cause of course the people who don't smoke will be doing all the work when they are on this paid break

The reality does not work like that. My experience of companies that offer this is that they are very old school, the managers themselves smoke, so they know exactly who does and does not smoke. You wouldn't get away with going for a smelling break ;)

The longer time goes on the less this will occur. The company I work at only allow smokers to smoke ina designated area on their breaks/lunch...none of this 5 minutes here and there rubbish

I have never worked for a company that allowed smoking breaks in anyway shape or form only smoking at lunch time as long as you were no where near the building.

Or course if you were taking the bankings to the bank you may have had a crafty one on the way but when the ban came in like I have said if you were seen you were fired.

Some people seem to think they are entitled to smoking breaks PAID!!
In the company I worked for, any smokers take their smoke breaks during official breaks only, (for some reason people are entitled to having a PAID break).

However I would much rather a smoker takes themselves outside the workplace to smoke, rather than chug away over their desks in some form of passive NON break smoking.

Well there is no law about smoking or doing anything else in your own time.

I can not see how one cigarette at lunch time would smell so badly?

Lots of companies do not allow smoking breaks so they should not be smelling of fags etc

    smoker I take it?

I never said people are not entitled to a paid break I said you can not be paid for a smoking break

Most places do not have tea break only lunch breaks and smokers are not going to go all the way to say 1pm or 2pm to have a fag if the last one they got was 8.50am!

Since when do people smoke at their desks anyway???

In jobs I've worked in before people were always nipping out for a fag, the time they were gone didn't bother me just the smell. I don't see why I should have to put up with it. Smoking is a disgusting vile smelling habit, I think it should be banned everywhere except where the smoker lives. Even if someone smoked 1 cigarette during the day their clothes would still smell of it and I would end up with a banging headache and therefor I would have to go home.

To the person who assumed I'm avoiding work this is not the case thank you very much.
