Working with smokers

Im not working at the moment but just have a question for hopefully when I do. I know people can't smoke in their workplace but often have fag breaks and smoke in their lunch hour. I can't stand the smell of smoke and it also gives me a banging headache so wouldnt be able to work with people like that. There is no way I could be forced to is there?

Er yes, that is not a reasonable reason to refuse a job.

I doubt very much that an employer would be able to make it so that you are guaranteed to only work with non-smokers

I dislike the smell of perfume and aftershave. Can I turn down a job because of that?

I completely feel your pain, a new guys started working in my team. Sits right next to me and when he comes back from having a cig he stinks.

I end up with a banging headache and bad mood.

All I can suggest is sitting as far away as possible from someone who smokes, you will obviously soon work out who that is.

Well there is no law about smoking or doing anything else in your own time.

I can not see how one cigarette at lunch time would smell so badly?

Lots of companies do not allow smoking breaks so they should not be smelling of fags etc

My work they just go whenever they want.

I swear though the new guy takes his fag ash and pats it into his clothes.

I hope they get stopped £ or more fool the non smokers and the company who allow that to happen

When the smoking ban came into play everyone at 'work' was not allowed to smoke on company time even if taking £ to the bank as it was a sackable offence.

Your going to have to find a far better excuse to avoid work than that one. Smoking in the workplace was outlawed a while ago.

Enduring the odours of others is part and parcel in the workplace, from body odours to cheap perfumes.

Who is on a break? The poster just said they have a fag whenever they like therefore that not a break
