Are people still going to the Dom Rep? It's the Butlins of the Caribbean. :rotfl:

    I'm going here this year.
Punta Cana is not Butlins & this hotel is as far from Butlins as is possible.

We were recently on a flight from MAN - PUJ which is about 9 1/2 hours long. Unfortunately we were unlucky enough to have 2 families with babies put in the rows next to us. The rows in the middle were empty and the crew moved the families into them, I am assuming as they had not paid for a seat for the baby. I know they will end up next to someone so this isnt my gripe. The problem was that one of the babies did not stop screaming for 9 hours which as you can imagine is extremely annoying. The parents got some very disaproving looks from my OH.

What gets me is why do people feel it is appropriate to take babies on long haul flights for holidays? Surely if you make the decision to have children you realise you may need to think about your holiday choices more, the child obviously did not appreciate the 9 1/2 hour flight and neither did the other 320 people onboard the aircraft.

On another point, on the same flight the cabin crew made an announcement that someone had a severe peanut allergy so they would not be selling peanuts and requested no one ate peanuts they had brought with them. We both thought this was odd as if your allergy is that severe woud you really want to go to another country to a hotel where the chefs speak very little English and the risk of nut contamination in your food would be much higher than the UK?

Sit in premium - no screaming babies in there:D

My DD will be taking my DGS long haul, fingers crossed he will be ok.

I agree if the nut allergy is so bad they can't be near someone eating peanuts then it will be difficult to cope abroad with badly labelled buffets & menus & cross contamination with ladles!

I went to the DR in 1996 and stayed in a tiny hotel in a local village on the north coast. I got to know the locals and spent my money in their bars and restaurants. The locals and the tourists used the beach/swimming pool etc together, and when a big hurricane struck, the locals made sure the tourists were safe.

No offence, but that hotel could be anywhere in the world, along with the other resort hotels that have sprawled across the island. There's no culture, you won't know anything of the locals or how they live. You'll be there with all your comforts while the person serving you earns the equivalent of 50p a day. Most wont even venture out of the complex.

I'd no sooner go somewhere like that than go to Butlins here. Horses for courses, of course, but its not for me.

    Why the hell not!??

Why should you, because you have children, have the right to !!!! other people off? Please tell me, I would love to understand your reasoning!

I also never said that they should always wait til 10 either. I just stated that this was the first time I was on a flight.

As I have already said, I don't have a problem with kids on flights as long as they are well behaved.

Oh you are kidding me? Such an idiot. Do you not have any family?

Why do you feel you have the right to dictate what other people should do? If it upsets you so much, you don't have to travel.

Yes exactly my point, arrogant. You want to do something and you don't care about other people to get what you want.

Well, lets turn that around. You want a quiet flight, Lokolo, and you don't care that other people will have to sacrifice their holiday plans in order for you to get what you want. Arrogant?

Because its common courtesy and polite.

I assume you don't mind people being loud, playing loud music etc. on public transport then?

No it's not arrogant at all to expect all people to have a pleasant experience when flying. Not sure how it is arrogant to want this nice experience for, not only me, but for fellow passengers. I think that's just polite!

There are far more annoying adults on flights than children. Snoring, farting, drinking like theres no tomorrow, smelly feet, smelly armpits, fat and spilling out of their seats into mine, reclining their seats just as i'm eating, need i go on ? Give me a crying baby anyday. At least i know the baby can't help it.

I've taken both my kids on long haul flights since they were tiny babies, why should i be deprived of a well earned holiday just because i chose to have children ? Yes, the children might not know where they are, but i do. They're called "family holidays" and i happen to class my kids as part of my family so they go everywhere with me. I don't give a stuff what other people think, i pay for my flights just the same as everyone else.

There's a big difference between people who inconsiderately play loud music and people who take children on planes!

Small babies crying on planes is nothing like adults being thoughtless on public transport!

Presumably I should keep DD indoors all day everyday in case she cries in a public place.
