After reading all the posts on MSE decided to have a go and reclaim charges, quite shocked that I had £1081 charges applied to my account. So sent off the letter to ask for the money plus interest back, rang after 2 weeks(the time I had given them to reply) and was told it was taking 8 weeks for them to look at cases, received a letter 5 days later offering 50% of the amount less the interest. so I rang 01977 627422 and spoke to a guy called Nick, told him I wasn't happy with this amount and would be willing to take the full amount less the interest he said he would put a note on my a/c and pass it on, I asked if it could be looked at straight away but he said he didn't have the authority all he could do is pass it on.
On the 50% letter it stays the offer is a goodwill gesture and is in full and final settlement of the complaint, I hope they don't reject the full claim now.
I've now a nervous wait.0 -
Turboshandy have yor phoned them back i would. As i said before i did this every 2 to 3days.Final settlement was agreed last wed and half the money went into my account on frid.Just waiting on the other half so i can buy my hubby a 40th birthday present.

It s been just over 40 days since sending off my original letter asking for statements, but nothing has arrived.
I have spoken to Ronnie who sorted out my mums claim, but shall I ring the same number to ask about my statments or is there a different way to go about it ?0 -
Well, I phoned the 01977 number, got through 2nd time and spoke to David. He explained that my claim is with a review manager at the moment and I should hear back in the next week or so.
Starting to feel a bit better about things now but mad at myself for not trying this number first - they seem to know what they're talking about more than the 0845 mob.0 -
I received a letter from the Halifax stating they are declining my claim as apparently I have signed for the account and they send letter stating any changes to the account.
But I have held the account since I was 9 so I was unable to sign for the account plus I do not recall signing and returning any documents when they up graded the account. Any suggestions please? My friend has claimed with Natwest and they are paying out no questions asked!
Just phone Halifax again and asked them to re-evaluate my claim and he said that he will esculate it further and someone will be in touch in the next few days. Hopefully I might get some where.0 -
The staff on the phones at HBOS are extremely helpful! Like the rest of you I got the standard "our bank charges are fair" letter. I called the number, asked for the claim to be re evaluated and the girl was more than happy to do that. Two week later I received a letter for the sum of £925 (out of a £1405 claim.) However because Halifax and BoS merged, I was not given my statements before 2004. When they arrived, I recalculated and inc interest my total claim should have been £1900.
Like the letter instructed, if I wasn't satisfied - I should give them a call to reject the offer of £925. The man I spoke to was pleasant enough. Asked if I believed that the banks do need to charge if I go overdrawn. I said "saying that I believe what they are charging at present is an unfair and unlawful amount." He asked if I'd be happy to reach a settlement today over the phone. He offered £1500 which I was extremely happy to accept.
A big thank you to Martin and to everyone who posted on this thread, I had to keep checking it for encouragement and to see how everyone else was handling theres. I just hope my post can help some of you who are still claiming!
All the best guys!0 -

I just spoke to Customer relations about my statements not arriving, I was told that there is no record of me requesting them, eventhough they sent my cheque back saying they no longer charge, and sending me a letter explaining they have received my request and will send them as soon as possible as they are very busy with these requests ???
She is going to email someone and say I have been waiting for them and I should received them within 2 weeks.
I think I will wait a week and ring again.0 -
I can't believe how easy the process was.
I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon and claim back some charges that had been imposed on my Halifax account. I went through statements that I had for the last couple of years and found that they amounted to £180.00. Well I though better in my pocket than theirs. So I scribbled a quick letter to my local branch explaining that I felt hat it would be sensible that they simply repay those charges into my account.
I heard nothing for three or four weeks, and had considered going thorugh the process outlined on this site. To my surprise, as I was considering doing that, statements for the last six years landed on my doormat. I hadn't asked for them, and certainly hadn't paid for them. It was almost as though the Halifax were encouraging me to make a full claim!!!
So as not to let them down, I checked the statements and found that they owed me a total £350.00 over the six year period. I immediately sent off the standard letter (from this site), and within three or four weeks I had a letter from them saying that they didn't think I had a valid claim as all the charges had been in accordance with their rules and regs.. On that letter was a telephone number and a reference for my claim. Following teh advice on here I simply phoned them up and asked that the decision be reviewed.
Another three or four weeks went by, and then another letter arrived stating they would settle by paying me half the amount. I again followed the advice on here and telephoned the person from whom the letter had been sent. He asked me what I wanted, I told him the full amount, as other Halifax customers had had. He then asked me if he could deduct £10.00 because my account had not been run properly (ie become overdrawn), and simply hadn't the heart to push it with him so I accepted.
I write this just to show how easy it was. All the people I spoke to were pleasant, and almost apologetic. I would recommend that evryone goes for it.0 -
Just come off the phone to a chap called Wayne Smith on the 01977 number, he was very help and understood that I had been lied to and had my complaints ignored. He told me he was going to email my claim off to be looked at by a team of senior advisers who would make me an offer within the next 10 days. Does this sound like the truth or does it sound like another classic halifax fod?
