I just had my first offer it was just over 50% of my claim should i ring the number of the person dealing with my case on the letter or the fabled Richard/Steve/Graham number to haggle the offer? can someone let me know what the best option so i can ring this lunch time0

Phone the 01977 number if you can get through on it. Failing that phone the number on your letter and ask to speak to the person dealing with your case. Tell them you're not happy with the offer and they should offer the full amount (without interest) with very little haggling. Just keep saying you're not happy until they go the whole way.0

Wish me luck, come 12 o'clock come the phonecall!! could be seeing £5k coming my way if works! :T0 -
I had success. After the usual 'court letter' threat and the decline letter, I asked for my case to be reopened. Took roughly 3 weeks and they sent a letter saying they would pay 50% of money back. I called and after negotiating, got all my money back!!! Good luck to all who are waiting
A question for people who have had money back -- how long does it take to go back into your account? ThanksOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no 463 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -
I negotiated with a lovely guy on the 01977 no (not Graham, Neil I think?) for my full claim less £19 14 days ago. Their 'goodwill' gesture of half went in a couple of days later but I'm still waiting for the second half. I rang and spoke to Alex on Wednesday who said it will be in by today but it's not so just rung and spoke to Ben who is now going to email the payments dept and chase it up and give me a ring back as they are duty bound to pay the money in within 14 days apparently (which is today).
Is there a chance that they might back out of this as I wasn't asked to sign anything?? Has this happened to anyone else?DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
hi all
i am just embarking on taking ont he halifax
to cut a long story short i ahve banked with them for 6 years + during the last 3 years my card every month has been getting charged with an amout if £9.99 form a company i know nothing about. This has been referred to the fraud department, the upshot?
nothing they arent interested... even thought his company has amanged to carge my account for the last 3 years for something i havent had or ever had from them, and the card details they hold are 3 years out of date and not even in the correct name... what does halifax do?
charge the amount to my card every month regardless of if it takes me overdrawn or not, if it does they then charge me another £30 for the pleasure !!
the upshot?
i am furious of going round in circles with them and now am resorting to claiming all my charges back which is £7,210+interest for 6 years!
i spoke to a lovely woman this morning who reversed the charges on my account for the last two months as easy as that!! how come they can do it sometimes and not others?
so far this £9.99 a month has cost me £1200 in bank charges and £300 in the 9.99 all for something i dont have the other charges are at £39 a time for emails !
LOL
you really need a sense of humour to bank with the halifax
and then today coz i said i was closing my account because of all the hassles and reclaiming my bank charges she said, well you might not get all of your charges back... i said WATCH ME!!!!
laff laff
inall fairness she was lovely and i think being polite and having a bit of banter with them helps a long way.I certainyl wasnt banking on being £150 better off straight away from one phonecall this morning but as tesco says every little helps and aparantly she said it should only ever take 5 days max for any payment they and you agree to hit your account not the 14 some halifax customers are being quoted another stalling tactic to egt another few days interest on the money they ahve alread had of yours for years me thinks!!!
so you could end up getting your cash a bit quicker???
i of course declined her offer to set up a new account with them this morning

Hi Jo,
I am fearing exactly the same - spoke to Neil, who upped my claim to almost 100% and said he would pay in the balance should the partial offer already have been transferred. Partial offer went in next day but still no sight of the difference. Ok, mine was only 4 days ago, but I also still have not received the letter confirming 100% which he was suppesed to sent out the same day, slightly worried now.... will you keep me posted how you are getting on as it's still a bit early for me to do something about it I suppose?
Thanks & good luck!0 -
When phoning in to say no thans to the approx 50% offer and you have to ask for the whole lot, would that be whole lot including interest or not inc interest?

Hi everyone, haven't had a letter in the post as promised so decided to ring 0845 number (got through straight away)and spoke yet again to a very polite guy, this time someone called James, anyway he said it was unacceptable that I hadn't heard anything so he was going to get onto the people who send out the letters and I should hear something by Wednesday, he said if I don't I should ring back and someone can tell me what's in the letter and possibly the offer....Wednesday seems so far away...
all the best to you all,
