Well I got my letter yesterday morning saying as a good will gesture they will give me half of the bank charges (no interest). I am not accepting this amount so I am calling them tommorrow, I couldnt ring yesterday as I think they were closed, it just kept ringing out. Have you had your money yet, they will probably wait exactly the 14 days wont they till they put it into your account?

Well, the original amount (the 'goodwill' payment!) of £1,319.00 went in yesterday...on a Sunday which I thought was weird, and extremely helpful as I was wondering how I was gonna get through the week :D

So I presume that was an automatically generated payment when the letter went out. Waiting for the other half now :D

Let me know what happens when you ring, good luck!!

I have also received a decline letter on Saturday referring me to the FO if I am unhappy. And all that AFTER I gave them an additional 8 weeks for their investigations!

I would really like to know what their deciding factors are as it seems so random, or not? Might it be the amount or maybe the person who handles the investigations?

Anyway, I will call them now as well and hopefully they will revaluate.....

I was in exactly the same boat, they declined me after I'd given them the full 8 weeks to investigate. Just phone them up, they will re-assess your claim. I did this on Friday and they said, because mine is an older claim, I will receive an offer in the next couple of weeks.

    Thanks turboshandy - will do!

If it should come to the next step, will you go via FO or court?

I also am confused that they are referring me to the FO, almost advising me to do so!
They would only do that if they think it will work in their favour, right?
That makes me think I have to admit, that maybe court is the better option?
My claim is over £5000 (inc interets though).

Hiya, I rang Graham today and he wasn't as helpful as the last time though, but he was still OK. I told him I wasn't happy with the half they offered so I will continue on with court. He then said we will negotiate, I didn't really know what to say as he asked how much I wanted, I said well I asked for this amount because I beleive this is how much is owed to me. He then said well if you want to fight for the full amount you will have to go to court because they have found a loop hole whereas they do not have to pay back the interest to us, I dont know if this was just a saying or what. He then offered me £1275 which is the amount without the interest (interest of £174) so Ive accepted that, I know I may have got more if I argued but I thought Ive started with nothing £1275 is fab for a couple of letters being sent and 2 phone calls dont u think? He said I should have it in my bank within 3 days. Thanks for your help!!!!:T
  • Hi Gang!
Well, I think I gave the Halifax team a bit of a surprise due to my North American accent! lol
I spoke to Mr. Ronald Head who was very, very nice (I just love a Scottish accent! lol). I used the 01977.627.422 number- took a little while to get through, but not bad at all. I explained the FO had referred me back to them to discuss the matter- he said of course they would do that as standard procedure. He said my claim will be sent to the negotiating team now and that I should hear back within a couple of weeks.

I hand delivered my claim to the local branch (got a receipt) Friday before last, got a letter back this Friday past, and now a re-evaluation ordered today. Moving very quickly, eh?! I think they've finally gotten their procedures down and are starting to get organised.
About asking for your statements: I had a strange experience with this. I took the letter into branch (receipt of course) and waited to hear. Got a letter back saying I would need to sign a separate authorization for them to take £5 out of my account, but then got the statements in the post with out sending anything in. Strange enough, but who am I to argue with the BANK Who Know Everything and never makes mistakes (like freezing my account twice for the same stolen cheque I had been given by someone and then not bothering to say 'sorry and never bothering to contacting me when I complained).

Also, while I'm here, I wish to extend a huge THANK YOU to everyone who's been kind enough to share their knowledge and experience with the rest of us. Your generosity and patience are amazing, folks! You gave me the confidence to finally make a claim (I'd been putting it off for months out of fear of getting my account closed since my credit is soooo bad I know I could never get another one!). I was confident in what you guys have told us and that meant I knew what to do and say to get things going. Thank you for that!
    Ciao,
    Lee

    Hi Everyone,

My 8 weeks were up this week, 8 weeks from when I sent the first letter. I had asked for a re-evaluation 3 weeks ago and Ronald Head was dealing with it........and he had said to phone back today if I had not heard anything. Needless to say I had not heard anything so I called him again today and he was lovely as always. He apologised for not doing mine sooner but I should receive a letter by the end of the week. I am claiming £2200 and I don't expect an an offer anywhere near that but are they pretty good when you phone back to negotiate?

    Thanks
    Caz

I just phone the 01997 nr and this lovely Graham answered - he really DOES exist!

He said he is going to look into it for me and will send me an offer in a couple of days!

I am soo happy now, finally seems to be going somewhere!
  • I don't know if this will help anyone, but I just spoke to a girl who works in the local branch and she said that their home office has just now gotten things sorted to deal with new claims. She said there is such a huge backlog of old ones that it is going to take them a while to get through them. The claims going in now are being handled as they should, but they are trying to wade through all the old ones as fast as they can. She said they are asking the FO for more time to deal with them. She said that people would just need to be more patient than they usually are due to the deluge of work. The system just simply wasn't prepared for all the claims so they had nothing in place to deal with them. They've got it in place now and are working around the clock to get everyone into the system and get their claims sorted.

    Hope that helps explain things.
