Hi guys,
a quick tale from the unexpected. As you might expect, us military types often leave our homes for long periods in sunnier (and colder) climates. The last thing on our minds is what is gong on with the bank account. As you can imagine, many of us have problems keeping our accounts in good order (not an excuse).
My own story is similar to lots of people on the forum. The last 3 years were particularly dire, so bad that eventually we had to sell our house. The wife gave up work as she was expecting our first child, and we simply never recovered from this loss of income. At one point we were being charged 400-500 pounds per month in charges. From then on it had been a viscous circle, until we sold the house.
I am claiming a total of £6500 + £1500 interest.
I initially sent for my statements in February and received them in early April. I sent of my first claim letter the next day. They got back to me saying I would hear something no later than 20th June. I decided to be patient and give them a chance. Received my fob off letter on Wednesday, and phoned them the same day asking for re-evaluation. Spoke to a very nice man who said I would receive a response within 2 weeks. I now wait patiently for the next letter (hopefully an offer).
I have told most of the guys and gals in work about the forum. It seems I have caused somewhat of a snowball effect. I'm glad I got my claim in first.
A thank-you to all the people that have posted on the forum.
And a reminder to have a little patience, the people we talk/write to aren't the ones we a re fighting. Be polite to them and they should help you. If in doubt ask the people here on the forum.0 -

Hi
I've been following Martin's advice on claiming back my bank charges, but am new to this forum, but wanted to share my news with you.
I received my standard refusal of claim letter on Saturday and have just phoned up to ask for my complaint to be re-evaluated. The very nice young man who I spoke to (Matthew) asked if I knew what that entailed, so I said I thought so but asked him to give me the details. He said that my claim would be passed to a Senior Investigator and that I would receive a percentage offer in the post within 8 weeks from the date of my initial complaint and that if I wasn't happy with the offer I should ring to negotiate. He said they were snowed under and that the deadline they were working to was 10 August, but it should be before then. He was really nice and I think it's great that they are now being honest and saying they will give you your money back. Looking forward to hearing from them soon!;)

Sounds like alot of us have had the same conversation with Graham today!
Have now been offered the full charge costs of £476 - was told this was max I could get unless I went ahead with court action - didn't get interest or court costs back which would have made it £548 in total, but I've accepted it as happy to have some success atlast!0 -
Woooohooo!! I'm so happy for you
Doesn't it make you feel good :j
He basically said the same to me, they offered me £1,329.00 and I rang and said I wanted £2,600 (£19 less than the total amount excl. interest) and he said that it would have to be re-evaulated then and I insisted that it was done on the phone there and then as I didn't want to waste anymore time on it. He put me on hold and apparently spoke to his manager and then offered me the £2,600. I was so pleased with how I could be so polite and firm!
I'm really pleased it's worked out for you. I got the original offer put in the bank yesterday and still waiting for the rest, so keep your eyes out in the next couple of days and you should get at least the original offer put in then hopefully not too long before the remainder gets credited!
I've already paid off 3 of my debts today, I feel like a weight has been lifted! Now I'm gonna ring a couple of gardeners and get them to sort my [strike]jungle[/strike] garden out, patio, play area, the lot!!! :j

I started off with halifax by asking for a list of charges, or statements for the past 6 years. ( I CLOSED THE ACCOUNT OVER 3 YEARS AGO) They didn't send them, so I contacted the information commisioner. They got in touch with the bank, halifax then phoned me to confirm where to sent the details to. They then sent a list of the charges.
Next I sent them a letter to reclaim the charges, I got the standard letter "the charges are correct, etc. "
I skipped the second letter and took court action straight away through moneyclaim.
They failed to answer the court documents, so I then filed for judgement.
DO NOT GIVE UP ON YOUR CLAIM, KEEP GOING, YOU WILL WIN IN THE END!
I am currently at the judgment stage with halifax, the court ordered the judgement on 22nd June. How long do I wait before I can send in the bailifs? I'm wondering if Martin would still like to be notified if I do send them in?
Anyone know?0 -
Hi Lorna
This is exactly what happened to me. I called them and was assured that they had a list of charges their end - however true to their word the statements arrived straight after. I worked them out and sent the next letter as part of the course and rang them and asked for it to be evaluated. Think this is just standard practise. Don't worry. Give them a call they were very approachable and helpful. The next letter will then be a standard reply saying 6-7 weeks. Stick with it though!
Glad to know that I should get the statements!!I certainly won't give in! When I received the majority of these charges I was going through Cancer treatment and I had informed them that I was ill but they kept on taking money out of my account. So I am now gunning for them!! I'm on a quest!!!Thanks for your help and all the best in your battle!0 -
Well folks,
Looks like its the end of the road for me . . .

Very very pleasant and helpful, should be in my account within 14 days0 -
