to be honest barryhefron thats exactly what I said! I called them on tues and said" on the bottom of the letter it says to call if I'm not happy with the offer, so thats what I'm doing" the chap said ok why aren't you happy I said " well I know if I go to court not only will I get the full amount but I'll also get the interest" fair enough he said, what would you be happy with "£2600" I said claim amount £2630, I'm only authorised to give £2500. oh I said thats a problem, I s'pose I could take that and then go to court for the other £130 +interest & court fees. hang on he said, put me on hold for 5 mins came back and said my supervisor says thats fine £2600 it is we will send out an acceptance form to you. great I said. half money went in yesterday on return of the form the rest goes in.
    hope that helps :A

i like your no nonsense approach, will give it a go!

My mothers claim - Just received an offer letter of £840.50 for a claim of £1359.99 (inc interest)
called up the 01977 number and was very polite - after being told someone will call me back in a few minutes they did after about 15minutes.

Said to the guy Richard, thank you for your offer but could you tell me how it is made up and didn;t really tell me much. Asked him is there any way they could increase the offer as i was claiming the amount stated and he said they could increase the offer to £1681 - get the £840.50 already offered within 14 days and the other £820.50 within 3 weeks.

I accepted this offer and asked him to repeat the offer again to ensure i was hearing right.

Hope they do come through with this as this would really help my mother out - can't believe they are paying more than requested. has anyone else got more than they claimed?

After speaking to who I think was Graham on Monday, I received an offer in the post yesterday (Wednesday), it was for £1,329.00 and I'm claiming for £2,619.00, so basically half. I rang the number on top of the letter which was a different 01977 number and spoke to a lovely guy called Neil who looked at it and said what would I accept to settle and I said, whilst laughing cheekily, £2,600??! He said it would have to back to be re-evaluated again and had no timescale. I asked if we could possibly settle it on the phone to save the waiting and he put me on hold. He came back and said that his manager would like to offer me £2,600.00 if that's ok (???!!), I said yes that would be fine and it will be in my account within 14 days. So keep your fingers crossed for me.

Let me know what you are offered. Good luck

fair play to you :T (jammy sod!!!!)
  • Just rang Graham (he was actually dealing with my case) and he was pleasant as always.
Explained that i would accept the half offer as part payment and would like a better offer.
He asked what would put a smile on my face and i said full amount, less interest so he said i should expect a letter from Halifax offering the remaining half.

The guy deserves a pay rise for his attitude and helpfulness as i am sure he must be totally !!!!ed off at the number of calls he is having to deal with yet he is always professional and good humoured.

has anyone had their accounts closed with halifax/BOS since receiving their claim? Hopefully not!
  • I have just successfully had my bank charges repaid yesterday. A grand total of £2,896.50. I'm delighted and have told everyone to start their reclaiming process.

Had the letter to say sorry but we're not paying then I said well lets go to court. Its worth the wait as they paid out and in full for me.

Thank you so much for all the information. Martin Lewis the Robin Hood for the 21st century.
  • I am hoping that there is someone on here that can offer some advice. I have been in the process of reclaiming my bank charges from Halifax and the last letter I sent them was to threaten to take them to court. They didn't respond within the 14 days and so I took them to court. That was a week and a half ago so I'm a week away from being able to serve judgement on them however this morning I received a letter from them telling me that they were going to pay me 50% of my charges back and it was going straight into my bank account and if I wanted to dispute this I had to send them the money back.

I don't want to accept this offer because minus the £120 I had to pay the court fees it's way less than 50%. My problem is I don't know how to send this money back to them and I don't know what I should be doing with th court case because their letter was in response to my letter threatening to take them to court not in response to me actually taking them to court. I'm quite concerned that I might end up with nothing if i'm not careful.

Can anyone advise me of what I should be doing next because I'm so confused now. Thanks in advance.

I think he must read this thread, maybe we should start a 'Mutual Graham Appreciation Thread!' Thanks Graham :)
