I also spoke to the 'guy' on the 01977 number today, he was far more helpful and clued up (and polite!) than the 0845 number. You've got nothing to lose by ringing it...just remember, be firm BUT POLITE!! It really does seem to work for most that have been through it. Good luck :D

just wanted to tell everyone-don't give up!! I contacted the Halifax this morning after getting an offer of half claimed-a goodwill gesture! Rang a 01244 number this morning and spoke to a snooty young woman who refused any more. Told me off for not keeping my account in order- which I do understand, but I have had a few problems the last 12 months! I said I would take it to court and she said 'you do realise that the courts are claiming in favour of the banks'. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said there wasn't one and I would have to accept what they had offered! Anyway not getting anywhere so thanked her for her time. I was very polite. I then decided to ring the number at the top of my offer letter and was put in touch with a lovely gentleman. I said I wasn't happy with the previous woman. Anyway to cut a long story short he said what would I think would be a good offer, and then he said that would be fine and agreed to an extra £2000. He said to me that the letters they send are computer generated and that he has a certain limit per offer he can work to. So don't give up and be as polite and courteous as you can and only ring the number at the top of your offer letter and take the name of the person you speak to. Now waiting for my money, which will be paid in 2 separate lots. Thanks to Martin and everyone on the forum.:money:

I tried ringing this number but I guess it's closed. Does it make a difference if I've not received any offer yet? Also I originally asked for £5000 back as I had been charged £5370, I've since calculated that I would be owed £1480 Interest, would it be too late to request this when I get through to the man?
  • My DD is only claiming 30 odd pounds back from Halifax. The reply to her 1st letter was go away, it's all in the terms & conditions etc. Is it worth her pursuing it further? On the 1 hand I wouldn't have thought it was worth their while defending it, but on the other hand they may feel it's not worth her while paying court fees etc.

Has anyone had any success claiming back such a small amount?

Is it worth her while ringing this nice man :D ?
