That does sound interesting Greying - thanks. If I'm in the car I'll try to remember to catch it, we're off camping over the weekend but if we're driving we do sometimes have Radio 4 anyway. I did get quite cross at that programme on the BBC the other week with the celebrity chefs :o

That's why I hedged my bets in recommending it. I've not got around to watching that TV prog yet, despite taping it. But frankly, the write up in the tv listings mag made me wonder about it (they revealed how Richard Corrigan just ran rough shod over the budget) and then the majority of comment on it - that I have read - has been erring on the negative side - with a few positive comments along the way.

7 Week Wonder was saying Jack Monroe is going to be on the Food Programme. So it might be useful, rather than 'blather'.

Hope you are well Pippi and enjoying time with your visitors. Mmmm, They're not 'Cheery' vegetarians per chance? :hello:waves hello, just in case :D

I was thinking, has anyone heard from Karmacat lately?

    Have a good evening all.

Hi Greying, Richard Corrigan was interesting actually, yes he did run over the budget on one meal, but equally he showed them cooking methods that could be used for other choices that would have come within the budget. He also gave the family concerned a parting gift of 4 hens, plus food, grit and a henhouse etc - this was a gift from him, not from the programme, and the Hens are now producing plentiful eggs which the family are finding fantastic! After I wrote my blog on the programme I had some twitter correspondance with the father of the family and it sounds like things are starting to come together for them.

The problem I found with it was that it seemed to be leaning towards an outlook of "look at these poor people, isn't this awful" rather than explaining where things have really gone wrong for folks like these, ie lack of food-education, kids not being taught that cooking from scratch can be remarkably easy and far cheaper than processed food, etc.

Apologies for the tardiness of my responses - I've been a tad over worked putting a recycling building on the HQ womble site (between events) and whilst the IDEA of a recycled building is nice - it just makes the organising of it and the moving of it and siting of it all the more interesting.

Yesterday I swear I had a wee greet after it was in place. Don't worry no one saw.

As anyone who does the book of face might have recognised - I look guy bonnie in yellow high vis gear, steely's and a bright yellow hard hat.

(Any secret book of facers introduce yourself for a giggle)

So as the lovely greying writes elsewhere and I really do like I'd like to open with the following. (shamelessly stolen or inspired by her goodself)

Thanks all for reading and posting - I appreiciate all your comments if I don't reply directly or for a few days, its not cos I'm not grateful, I am, I'm often just chicken like headless with work :)

So thanks for both reading and posting.

Now I've got a wee minute so I'll reply to your goodly lovely comments.

    :)

Hi Pippi and Hi BOB :hello: and everyone else in the Stripey gang:hello:

Pippi - have you all the napkin sewer volunteers you need? I have a stash of striped, flowery and plain fabrics (and some of it is even quite tasteful :rotfl:). I could run you up some if you need?

    Greying

There is indeed a stripy sweat shop (very ethical of course) on the go with this very project in mind and dimensions - you do so much I couldn't possibly ask - but I'll PM you. Its a fabulous offer and there's only so much sewing my poor brain can cope with.

I was thinking of a bold single colour theme in manner of rainbows but I've now taken a reality pill and decided to just get my hands on every single napkin I can make and forage from charity shops. We use cloth napkins all the time at home cos I'm very tight and I love them, so a variety of them for myself and giving away (probably covered in food) will be the way forward.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm so glad I'm doing the food with the Wik-miester. She's helping me when I utterly melt down.

    :T:A

To date only one minor melt down.

And I'll give you a laugh - Mr F decided that he might actually fancy a bit of a hog roast to embellish some of the wedding fayre.

The quote came in at just under our whole wedding budget

Wedding budget for everything including to feed a goodly amount of folks £3k max.

Hog roast on a roll for said party £2650 - needless to say we had a good laugh at that.

You just can can't you - teeth and probably glasses and perhaps even a toupee.

Guess it would just add to the flavour.

A blackening, now there's a thought..... *evil grin* - no, Pippi, you're safe, having witnessed one, not my idea of fun either! :rotfl:

*waves at Bob* *and everyone else :D*

Pippi I know the veggie visitors of which you speak :D Hope they've arrived OK!

Although a blackening is preferable to the alternative:p

They did indeed arrive alright - all injuries sustained were done off my premises.:rotfl:
Hail Pippi and the Stripey Gang :hello:

I also had to google 'brides cog'. I came across the description for 'a blackening'. I sincerely hope that your friends let that 'tradition' pass you by.......

Pippi and EH you may be interested in the Food Programme on Radio 4 on Sunday (28th), it's going to be looking a folk dealing with extremely low budgets and how they afford to eat. It may be enlightening and we all get to learn something new, or it may be hogwash and have folk shouting at the radio :D

    Greying

I'll look out for it when I'm travelling this week down sooth again - cheers. I'm off for a meeting in Braveheart land.

And I'm always game for a shout at the radio - I do that every sunday with the BBC Scotland garden potting shed.:rotfl:

The TV programme I saw and was horrified at those between the lines of benefit and not. It was quite interesting. Wasn't impressed (but understood) why the guy just bought them a fish - I might have done the same tbh - but did like the chicken donation for the family.

And the vegetarians are indeed very cheery.:A

KC is also on her holidays - but not here sadly :)

    Hopefully she's having fun too!

Yay for stripey wedding plans :D

Yay indeed for seeing you too!

THe plans, well I guess the best you can say is there are a few core themes which generally cover 'ecclectic' and 'green' and 'frugal' and 'anythinggoes'.

I'm happy we're finding a way forward which doesn't really stick with tradition and the expense of tradition and fathoming a kind of home spun frugal type event.

I've just had a chum agree to help with the decorating of the community venue we've found our autumnal theme suits it fine and its frugal as is leaves and berries. I'm not sure we'll have any flowers but I'm undecided yet. Perhaps a few snuck in but not many. I'm relying on rowan berries and rosehips to do their gorgeous thing.

And she's promised to turn all the berries into jellies after with me and help me compost the foliage.

    :T:T

Now that's my kind of thinking. I didn't even need to say - she just offered and said you wouldn't want them wasted would you.

No I wouldn't. I know its bizarre but I'd like to think I'd tried my hardest to make it happen the way that's important to us.

    :A

And, tbh - free after wedding jellies and jams - what's not to argue with. And as I have a day between the 'I do's' and the conference I'm presenting at, then I'll make jellies and jams. :)

I've also just had the venue agree that any home made wine/cordial and champagne - has no corkage. They've never had anyone want to bring their own home produce before....so there's no fee for taking it with us

    :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T

With that in mind guess who's just foraged more local elderflowers for cordials

    :D
