    Hi all.
Thought I'd give you an update, went for my scan today, baby is alive and kicking, I'm actually 11+3 not 10+2 so they done the nuchal translucency.

I'm now in turmoil as my chances are 1 in 51 of my baby having downs, I should be about 1 in 960 :(
I've been sobbing most of the day, even Babys Dad had a cry, I'm booked in for the CVS on Tuesday, so we have to travel up to London Kings college hospital for that.....

Hi Aston, I know it's a worry and nothing I am going to say will take that away from you. But, I had a CVS at 11 weeks because of a genetic condition I carry. Now I have a 50/50 chance of passing on the gene and having a handicapped child. So, my odds were awful. But thankfully we hit the good 50% and baby is fine. So if I can do it with a 1 in 2 chance think of how much hope there is for you!

The procedure itself wasn't the most comfortable thing I have had done, but my placenta was (and still is) in a funny position so it took a couple of attempts to get it done. It wasn't pain, more of a funny sensation, I grabbed the midwife's hand for the worst bit, but honestly that lasted just seconds.

Hubby was away at the time so I went alone and had no issues with driving afterwards, I even stopped off in sainsbury's on the way home to get some bits in for dinner. I spent the rest of the day resting and took it easy for the following 48 hours.

The first batch of results came in after 48 hours which gave me the all clear for downs and the other 3 things they test for. I had a 3 week wait for the full results which were for the condition we were testing for.

It is a worrying time but at least you will know 100% either way and can make decisions at this early stage. I have a very good feeling though that everything will be just fine and this time next week it will all be done and dusted.
I'll be thinking of you xx

I wonder if you can get maternity pay from two jobs??????

Now that would be nice!! But I guess you would have to be working for both at the same time first...if you had two part time jobs then maybe

Why did I even begin trying to answer :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good luck Mel - keep us informed!

Aww thank you, baby's Dad is coming with me so thats a comfort.
I'm sure i'll be fine, the odds of the baby not having it are higher than it having it so i am trying to stay hopeful.

    Thank you though;)

I suppose I will have to wait and see what happens, I do keep questioning if I should have said thanks but no thanks straight away. I was caught offguard and do really want the job though:rolleyes:

With most jobs it specifies you have you be working for the company (or whatever) before your 15th week of pregnancy to qualify for maternity pay other than SMP. You'd need to check the actual contracts and terms where you work but I think it's a standard period... I could have got that the wrong way round and you might have to have 15 weeks of employment before somethign else before you qualify... Pregnant brain!!! ARGH!!!!
I'll have a look at my contract tomorrow for you and see what it says - pretty sure it's a pretty standard condition that they've used for ours so might be helpful :)

Hi Ladies, just wondering those of you having CVS tests etc what are your reasons (if you don't mind telling) is it mainy because you are high risk?
I'm interested as my hubby wanted to research the whys and wherefores of testing but I refused point blank to have any with DS and won't be having them with this pg either.
My reasons for not testing are 2fold, my friend has a daughter with heart probs that were picked up on scan and told the prob is often linked to downs so she was offered amnio etc. seeing the termoil she suffered with the not knowing for sure as she didn't have amnio was horrible, I kno I couldn't have an amnio therefore don't see the point in worrying all the time until bubba arrived. (friends DD didn't have downs) 2nd reason is I kno I couldn't go through a termination (because I'm a wuss and I also don't totally agree with them) so don't even want to be in the position where I was offered one because my bubba wasn't "perfect" I'll love them whatever
The very best is sometimes what nature gives us for free.

sorry guys but couldn't find my original post.

Anyway, sister in law went to doctors who confirmed she has pretty bad PMT leading up to her periods. Less stress, eat healthy and rest as much as you can. Also she confirmed that these days doesn't matter what pregnancy tests you buy. i..e £9..99 clear blue or £1.99 wilkinsons they all do the same. She was absolutely adament that my sister in law was just late. She has given her a prescription for vitamin b6 to take and apparantely are marvelous. Told her to bin the catnus herbal tablets. She is feeling much better.

Yesterday than she did buy another test which also should NEGATIVE ( wilkinson predicator test this time ). Came home from shopping and there it was waiting for her. She FINALLY seen her monthly period. So happy and more relaxed.:j

So there you go. Pregnancy testing sticks either way are suitable.

Thanks to all for the info over the last couple of days.

    So
:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling
