  • Hi, Can anyone offer me any words of wisdom at the moment as I am feeling quite low. I am nearly 9 weeks and I am suffering with bad nausea, but it lasts all day and is terrible if I let myself get hungry. It is making me feel really low, I just have no energy, I am getting home from work and having to go to bed, subsquently little of the housework is done and I am just not eating well as I don't seem to be able to face anything. The whole thing is just making me feel really depressed. We haven't told anyone yet about the pregnancy execpt my work so I can have the appointment times off and instead of feeling excited about telling people I just feel miserable. I'm sure everyone will be dead happy for us but I don't think i'll be able to cope with other people's joy when I just feel so rank. I was just wondering if anyone has felt the same as I am at the moment? Any support would be gratefully received
  • Hiya squishyclaire,

I think most of us can relate to what you are going through...but most of us have come through it and begin to feel much better as we enter the second trimester. I even go the whole way through an evening without a nap now ;)

It takes time, make sure that you are forcing some fruit down yourself and drinking plenty of fluids, sleep when you can and stuff the housework (I know it gets on your nerves when it's not done but you have more important things to worry about).

Cry as and when you can (remember it's just hormones and you can cry your eyes out without anything being 'wrong').

Only 3 weeks or so left to go and you should be moving past the worst of it. I know some people have it all the way through but most don't.

And finally - rant, moan and worry on here as much as you like!!

eat little and often - keep snacks nearby to nibble regularly. Don't worry about WHAT you're eating, just make sure you eat. Sleep when your body tells you to sleep - it's normal and if you don't the nausea will get worse. Try to alternate eating and drinking - ie leave 15 minutes between drinking and eating.
Forget about housework - it'll still be there when you feel like doing it. Or do what I'm doing: Hire a cleaner!
Do I feel rank too? Read further up the thread on my fun trip to hospital and time on IV thanks to being dehydrated from vomiting! I'm now on a type on antihistamine which makes me drowsy but stops me vomiting but I still get nausea if I am not careful.
You can try ginger and travel bands but honestly they didn't work for me. I'm drinking lots of milk and water - the milk seems to help especially first thing and just before I go to bed.

hope everyone is well! just had a visit from the midwife to give me my notes and also go through the homebirth, i think everything was covered but it all seems crazy still lol!! has anyone else opted for or had a homebirth? is there anything i need to have or you would reccommend?? also which room are you having/had the baby in??? that was the only thing i never thought about lol!!

my new midwife is lovely and seemed really enthusiastic about the birth, which i never had with last midwife?? she even talked about sweeps and reflexology to start labour off from 38weeks lol!(as usually my girls like to stay put until im induced!)

am only 20 weeks tom but would like everything clear and organised, sorry bout the long post just have so much going around in my head?? well thats me away to finish painting the dining room!

i have a HB booked, i'm 38+2 so i'm allowed one now if baby would hurry up and come!!
i was told to have a plastic sheet or shower curtain, old towels, a torch (in case of power cuts), plenty of hot water for a bath and tea and biscuits for the midwives.
i'm having baby in the living room as its bigger, i don't fancy being carried down the stairs if i have to go in an ambulance!!

I don't post much but I do follow this thread (glad to see you back MrsTine!)

Having an awful day, suffering immsonia big time and must be sleeping about 5 hours a night. I am really struggling to keep my eyes open. Was up at 4am this morning after waking 5 times and after spending 2 hours tossing and turning got up for work only to be sent home 30 minutes later!!!! I am lucky my boss is really understanding and told my to take it as a sickie instead of wasting a days holiday after she told me I looked awful and to go home. I offered to take Holiday as I'm not ill. TBH they are probably sick of hearing me yawn all day:rolleyes: Got to the bus station and the driver refused me travel as I had a £10 note or £1.80 in change for a £2 single fare and he had no change. He had just started and was not prepared to let me off 20p as it came out of his wages and there were no other travellers to ask for 20p:mad: Ended up losing all dignity in the bus office and bursting into tears when complaining!! Atleast they were understanding and said they would certainly raise it as I should have been allowed on:rolleyes:

I have had a nap and feel worse for it but don't want to a have a long sleep as I will find it harder to get to sleep tonight and I really do not want to take the pee and go into work looking like I did this morning!! I like to tell myself its my body preparing me for when the baby is here but I am now dreading it more!!!!!

On the plus side my nausea has subsidded, there is hope squishyclaire and I am 10 + 2 weeks.

    Thanks Emma :)
Don't forget that sick leave that is pregnancy related doesn't count as proper sick leave :) which your job probably realises but aren't telling you for some reason!
You've got to get enough rest and if that means missing a day or two of work then so be it... I know I am insanely lucky as I can work from home a lot - especially as we're breaking the news to my main client who is renowned for being difficult that I won't be travelling down for their next monthly review for medical reasons. Which I won't be. It's 3 and a half hours there and same back - if I don't take meds I will vomit all the way there and back and if I do I get drowsy and can't drive safely. So... they'll just have to deal with it! There is absolutely nothing I can do about it and neither can they so they'll just have to put up with it :) And more to the point - they only have me on site all the time to make them feel good - not because they actually need me there!
I've agreed with work that I'll be dialling in to the meeting whether I am off or not - this is out biggest client and no-one else has the account knowledge to deal with it and I don't mind dialling in from home even if doc signs me off longer.

Lidl have a tens machine on sale from next Monday for £20, well they do in scotland anyway. Looks quite good too. I was going to pick up a second hand one from ebay but will try and get this one first to see what its like.

Not sure if the link will work or not but here it is anyways.

  • Thanks for that Emma :money:

Any thoughts on TENS machines ladies? Are there different strengths etc?

I was checking in Boots the other day and they are £29.99 to rent (and £60-ish to buy) so this looks like an absolute bargain.

    Do they actually work though?
